Tap, tap... tap.
The sound of Jahseh's fingers hitting the wooden desk irritated his grandmother but she tried her hardest to ignore it, continuing to focus on her newspaper.
The tapping stopped for a second just so he could wipe the sweat that was soaking up in his palms, on his jeans. The tapping started up again.
Nervousness rushed through Jahseh's body as his thoughts began to consume him as he waited to hear the doorknob open with a woman walking through.
"Jah.." his grandmother expressed, "You gotta stop tapping. I'm trying to read."
Jahseh ignored his grandmother intentionally, attempting to remain calm and sane. He was going through it.
His leg began to shake with worry, sighing deeply as he wet his lips and stared at the door before him.
Jahseh was currently with his grandmother in a rehabilitation center to see his mother. It's been years since he's spoken to her and every time he'd asked to visit, the staff would say he had to wait.. his mother was in a very bad state and didn't want to see the either of them. Jahseh and Grace. His nana.
Jahseh's mother suffered from drug abuse and hallucinations most of the time. She was an addict and left her son with her mother when he was only seven. She loved him but knew he couldn't see her in this condition so she strayed as far as she could from him. And Jah took it to the heart.
The sound of a twisting doorknob disrupted Jahseh's thoughts while he stared at a petite, slender light skinned woman. She had curly, brown hair that was pulled back into a ponytail. Her outfit consisted of black sweats, a pair of slippers on her feet and an Ambercrombie hoodie. Her hands were stuffed in the pockets of her hoodie as she walked in, glancing around at her now standing son and her mother who stuffed her newspaper into her purse.
Silence filled the room for a few seconds as Jahseh stood there, his hands rubbing against his pants, a faint look took over his face.
The staff lady that walked in with, Jessica, Jah's mother, broke the silence with clearing her throat and beginning to speak.. "Well.. I guess I'll leave you guys to it."
She leaded Jessica over to her son, while they stared into each others eyes for what seemed like forever.
"Jessica.. no outbursts, none of that. Take as much time as you need family.. I'll be back in shortly."
With that said, the heavy set blonde, white lady walked out leaving the family to their business.
"Jah.. I'm.. I'm so–"
She didn't even have to speak before Jahseh wrapped his arms around her slim body. She hesitated on hugging him back but she did and that moment right there was all that he needed.
