Rosalie Drake ran into the kitchen and jumped up and down. Her blonde curls bounced and bright blue eyes showed excitement. Why wouldn't she be? After all, it was was the first day of first grade at Portwood Elementary.
She ran to the table and sat down in between her two ten year old sisters,
Bianca and Meredith. They were identical twins and had their father's brown hair and brown eyes.
While everyone was talking, nobody seemed to realize Rosalie's happy mood. Her smile faded. No matter what she did, nobody paid much attention to her.
She frowned, and got her pink hello Kitty backpack. They probably wouldn’t even notice if she left. With that, she left and went to school herself. Let them worry.
On her way to school, just as she started to see the farmiliar school building and playground, she stopped. A shiver went up her spine and she felt as though she was being watched. Like someone was....studying her from a distance. She looked around and saw nothing. Nobody was watching her. Nobody was going to hurt her.
She ran the rest of the way there, and throughout the school day, Rosalie could not sgake the feeling. She started to wonder if they had followed her inside the school, but nobody approached her.
And, throughout the day, she kept to herself. She didn't speak a word, not even to her friends. She sat alone at lunch, eating sandwich and drinking her juice box, still thinking that someone was watching.
After school, Rosalie walked home by herself. It was a long walk, over a mile. She just wished for a little attention, just a small gesture to show they still cared. But they didn't. Nobody did.
She was half way home now, but she couldn't see her school or her house from where she was. Did she take a wrong turn? She didn't recognize her suroundings and she started to worry again. What if she couldn't find her way home? Then, when she thought it couldn't get any worse, the feeling came back. She didn't look up the time. Maybe whoever was watching her was a nice person and was ging to help her, take her away, care for her.
She sighed. She was delusional. Maybe the one watching her was delusional, too.
She heard footsteps behind her, slowly getting closer and closer. Then they stopped. She felt someones hot breath against her head, as if the person was kneeling down to her height.
Still, she didn't look up.
Then, she heard her sister, Bianca, running towards her. Rosalie looked up.
"There you are," Bianca said, exausted. "I havebeen looking all over for you!"
Rosalie looked up, surprised, whipped her head around, and saw nothing. Nobody was there. Nobody was standing behind her. The chills were gone, she no longer felt like she was being watched.
