Are Yami and Atem the same person?

Now, Yami Yugi, the spirit of the millennium puzzle, and Pharoah Atem, supposedly Yami Yugi's ancient self, are said to be supposedly the same person in the anime. Now, is this exactly true? When I think about it, yes and no. This is what I believe, when Pharoah Atem was going to imprison himself in the millennium Puzzle, he split his sole in half. One half was his darker side, this side also had his memories and all his courage. He imprisoned this side into the millennium puzzle. The other half was his softer side, his friendlier side. This half died with his body. That softer side was then reborn as Yugi Muto. That is why Yugi was the only one who was able to put the millennium puzzle together. However, I do have more evidence to support this. First of all, Ishizu did argue that Yugi was the vessel for the Pharoah because he IS the modern day version of the Pharoah. But at the beginning of the series, Yami Yugi and Yugi seemed so incomplete. Yami Yugi was engage in games of darkness. He would threaten people like when he saves Tea from that burglar. He played a game with the burglar saying that if the burglar lost, Yami Yugi would decide his fate. Yami Yugi won and then made the poor burglar go mad. Yugi on the other hand had very little confidence. Not to mention Yugi, Yami, and Atem all looked similar. Another piece of proof I have is that Atem DID sound like Yugi as a child. Also, Atem does act a lot like Yami later on in the series when he had absorbed Yugi's kind and generous personality combined with his own dark personality. Also when Yugi got older, his voice sounded a lot like Yami's. Specifically, in GX. One of the most memorable GX moments of mine was when Yugi gave Jaden winged kuribo and greeted him with the words "you're a duelist", in Yami's voice. Like Yami, Yugi shares a similar bond with the dark magician. As if Yugi shared the same past with Yami. However, the only reason why Yugi didn't feel the memories through the vessel of Atem like Yami did is because, Yami is half literally Atem. Yugi is a reincarnation of Atem's softer side. Yugi and Yami are two of the same sole. However, this didn't last. Yami learned kindness from Yugi and Yugi gained courage and confidence from Yami. However, Yami and Yugi are still two sides of the same coin. Yami is still Yugi's darker side. But it was time Yami went to his resting place inside of the spirit realm. He needed to go to the afterlife because it was his time. Yugi was still a reincarnation and deserved to live his life. Yami and Kaiba aren't rivals. The rivalry is Yami and Yugi share the rivalry of Kaiba. They are two very similar characters, so much that they literally were the same person at one point. Put your ideas in the comments.
