Career Day

As I walked up to the pedestal to receive the job I had worked so hard for, I looked out to everyone. Everyone I had ever known, my friends, my parents, the baker I trained with, the blacksmith I passed by every day, the farmers that brought the bakery fresh ingredients every Friday. I felt so much joy to be one of them, I would be placed as a baker and work with my uncle Robbert. It felt like hours before the announcer said a word.

He spoke in a soft and deep-toned voice. "Alexus of the common people, you have earned the right to call yourself a. . ." Just then a  little man, the size of a young child, the royal servant I think,  runs up to the announcer and cut him off. "What HAGGARD!" he yelled in a sharp tone at the small man. Haggard grabbed the stool near the announcer's stand, which I hadn't noticed before. Mr. Announcer's face had changed from an annoyed look to a surprised, and then again to a smile. Mr. Announcer looked out to the crowd, and not wanting to miss anything I looked as well.

Some people looked angry that it was taking so long whereas others looked worried about why. Again he broke the silence, "My dearest commoners, today is a day to remember years to come. Alexus has been selected to be the new princess by the Prince himself." All faces went blank. I couldn't tell what people were thinking. I didn't know what I was thinking.

The silence was horrible, but what came next was oh so worse, the murmuring. The world started spinning. I couldn't understand what anyone was saying. Finally, I was rescued from my torture. A loud clapping came from the back of the crowd, Everyone turned to see who had the audacity to ruin their chatter. But the clapping ceased as soon as it had started and it seemed to come from no one at all. Then the Announcer told me to go join the group so he could continue on to other people.

In an attempt to escape my living nightmare, I leaped down from the stage. Resulting in a well-needed bonk to the head and some scrapes on my hands to remind me this happened. This wasn't something I dreamed and it sure as hell wouldn't have been one of my dreams at all. The Announcer went on as I booked it away from the horror that just blew my world apart.

I walked back to my cabin. After all that being greeted by my greatest love, Creegan brought back some solace. I tied up Creegan's rope harness and walked out back to my secret hide, where I had first met him.

At first, I hoped people were happy for me, until I stopped and realized, I  wasn't happy for me. Why did he pick me? There are way prettier girls in the village and why hadn't he chosen another royal? Why would he want to ruin his family name by bringing a commoner into it? I can't live the royal life. Why was the prince being so snobby and stuck up? Why does he just think He can just pick any girl and expect her to swoon over him and marry him on the spot? I don't know anything about him. What if I hate him? Hell, I don't even know what he looks like, no one does! I know for sure I will NOT be marrying this guy.  I need to find out more about him.
