3rd POV
A young man/woman awoke from their slumber encased with fatigue from the events of the day before. (S)he stretched his/her limbs making a satisfying pop their watch ticking away.
Most may take the trinket as annoying or useless because they have their trusty phones for time but indeed these watches are special they show your life span, each millisecond lets out a tick from the day you're born till the day you're dead, You're equipped with a gewgaw (actual word XD)the second your born.
Each knick-knack is made with care by the finest workmen and every ten years a new workmen is chosen to make the new memento's but that is besides the point you have a watch to keep track of your life time and a pattern to match your soulmate.(You probably don't want me to get into that do you?)
That is all it is but every tick saves your ever beating heart and your aged soul from the fright of death. Oh and yes there has been incidents were a clock has stopped working , if it happens to you from that point on you need to watch your back because society does not accept those without a watch to gaze upon your life span that is society's one flaw but alas no society is perfect is it? Anyways the tick was music to the young (wo)man's ears every sunrise till every sunset.
(Y/N) POV
You let out a ghastly yawn (did you see what I did there?)which probably awoke the neighbors from their peaceful sleep but you didn't care (BECAUSE YOU'RE THE PROTAGONIST!) you didn't care about anything it was like you were numb but not? it was hard to explain but all you know is you didn't care and you didn't want to care you came to the conclusion if you cared everything spiraled down because life didn't like you enough but truly this was a lie you told yourself every morning.
Actually you thought life forgot you because there were to many specks of people in the world and life could only take care of so much so it let go of you so life could handle the more fulfilled and eager people who actually are going places but you, you lived in a one story apartment surrounded by other people.
Mostly old geezers who's retirement savings didn't cover house expenses but the others were ether Frat 'houses' or peaceful homes to young families you were the only person that didn't have love that wasn't young enough to have a frat/sorority or retirement excuse, you were just there.
In your mind you were floating in a space of darkness wavering between insanity and purity but of course nether would accept you but again you in particular may ask why am I so robotic? well I'll tell you dear reader. (WHO HAS THE DUCK TAPE!)
You were involved in a recent war including (C/N) and France (This one shot may or may not be connected to another one shot I'm writing currently but this one shot wont give much away okay I'm going shush myself now)and saw your brother, father, best friend and sister die all in different time but the same day when the tick of their clocks stopped you screamed/manly screamed to the merciless field of the dead.
~Flash Back brought to you by later explained reapers!~There were so many that had passed it hurt your pride from how much you embarked on your feelings everything had shown it's repulsive appearance on your face the whole ensemble of emotions crashed and leaked threw your eyes like waterfalls to a dry stream.
You hated the world for a short moment then you thought in that black pit of a mind that since their dead no one really loves you no ones there for you now no one wants to notice you not even life itself so you quit at trying and then your emotionless façade shown itself clear as day.
