The next few days passed in a blur, one mixing into another into another. Most of my day were spent in my small room. Em said it was best if I stayed in here. She said Momma wanted me to become adjusted with the place. Even then, Em wasn't with me all the time, she would scurry of to who knows where, and I'd be left alone once again.

In reality I spent most of the time I was alone, at the window. I was intruiged by the man I had seen. Without even knowing it, I would wander over to the window, hoping that I would see him again. It was a ridiculous notion, but there was something so familiar about him.

I heard a gentle knock on my door, but before I was able to say anything, it flung open anyway.

Em came in wide eyes and bouncing in excitement, her hands behind her back.

"Ezra! Ezra! Guess what I have in my hands!" She exclaimed, her green eyes shinning brightly.

"Food?" I asked hopefully. Em only giggled shaking her head. Her curly hair swaying to and fro. Although Em came and gave me food everyday, I was still so hungry, my stomach constantly ached and yearned for something more to eat.

"Gee Ezra, you really do got an appetite, you need to watch ya figure! Ain't nobody gonna want ya if ya chunky!" She giggled hysterically unable to control herself. I stared at her unsure of what she was talking about.

"Oh right! I need to show ya something!" Em brought her hands in front of her. She was clutching a white material.

"What is it?" I asked confused, not understanding what the white lump that Em was holding in her hands was. Em frowned at me, clearly disappointed, that I wasn't sharing her clear joy and excitement, for whatever it was that was in her hands.

"It's a dress can't ya tell?" Ah! Now I could see it. The material draped and swayed. It was kind of beautiful once you knew what it was.

"I wanna see it on ya! Momma went to a great deal of trouble to get this dress," Em stared at it wistfully. "She thought it would look beautiful on ya... She had to do a great deal of bargainin'" she winked at me as if I was supposed to know what that meant. I didn't.

After commanding Em to turn around as I began taking of the silky night clothes, which Em could not understand why I was being so modest, I slipped the dress over my head. Although the material had seemed thin, it was quite thick, the straps of the dress gently resting on my shoulders and the neckline emphasizing my prominent collarbones. The way the dress fell, showcased my figure, clinging to my curves and flowing away gently from me at my hips. As I stared at myself in the small mirror, even I could tell that I did in fact look quite stunning.

Em turned around and gasped! "Wow Ez! You look amaaaazing!" I did a small twirl in the dress. This dress was quite amazing.

"The men 'll love you in this dress!" I didn't know what men Em was talking about but I didn't really care. I had other things that I wanted to talk to Em about.

"Hey Em I was wondering what Anatta's are?" And in an instant Em's demeanor changed, she let out a low hiss.

"It's a damn rich persons invention! You honestly don't know what they are? Where have ya been? Underneath a rock." She let out a harsh laugh, that was uncharacteristically not hers. "They are extra bodies for people so we ain't gotta die. We put all of our thoughts and such into um and just continue living." I paused unsure of how to phrase my question.

"Why is there a wall blocking these two cities? Em, why don't you have an Anatta?" Em scoffed. Although I knew that those robot things were unatural and wrong, Em spoke about them as if she wanted one.

"They put that wall up bout a hundred years or so ago. They didn't want us varmin interfering with their perfect lives." I walked towards my window. Just above the rooftops of the other houses I could see the tip of the wall far off in the distance, I shuddered. Em continued on. "The reason I ain't got one is the same reason now of us down here got one. Plain and simple, we ain't got the money. Trust me if I got the money I would be outta here in seconds... That's why I gotta work so hard." She trailed of, her eyes looking sadder than I had ever seen them. I was about to cross the small distance to her, when something below on the street caught my eyes.

"Em! Em! Come here!" Em quickly got up from my bed where she had been sitting and got up, intrigued by my excitement. "Whose that Em?" I pointed towards the male figure who was walking towards the house. His blonde hair shinning in the setting sunlight. For a split second he glanced up towards my window, and I caught sight of his brilliant blue eyes.

Em quickly pushed me back and away from the window. A shiver ran through her small body.

"Oh no no Ezra! You can't go near um, he's bad news! Bad news!" She bowed her head and shook it. "You gotta promise me not to get involved with him okay?" She leaned in closer. Her mouth centimeters from my ear. "I heard he killed his brother and is slowly killing his mother! He's the head hauncho round here. He's come in here a few times lately, but hasn't asked for nobody..." She trailed off.

"What's his name?" I asked, jumping at the break in Em's rant.

"Big Blue... On account of his eyes." I almost burst out laughing, what kind of name was that! But I quickly shut my mouth when I saw the deadly serious face Em was giving me.

She slowly unfroze her steely gaze and shook it off of her like it was only a bad feeling. She clapped her hands in front of her and took a step back from me. Her eyes glinted towards the street, but he was already gone.

"Okay Ez today is going to be your first day of work! You can't be just eating all out food ya know!" I guiltily glanced down, grasping my hands in front of me. I hadn't meant to be a burden to any of them.

Em grabbed onto my hand and dragged me out of my room. She continued to drag me down the hall. We walked past the bathroom, Em's room, and the kitchen. We walked right until we got to the stairs. Em began descending down them, still dragging me with her, turning a dead ear to my pleas for her to stop or at the very least slow down. She did neither.

She continued walking until she reached one of the many doors I had seen the first day I had arrived here. She pushed me in front of one of the first few doors and grabbed both of my arms.

"Okay I'm not sure if you know what's going to happen next... But you'll figure it out soon enough, you just need to be a good girl okay? Just do what he tells ya to." With that Em pushed the door open and thrust me inside. Shutting the door behind her. A small clicking noise sounded, and I began to panick. No matter how hard I twisted the doornob, it wouldn't open. I began pounding the door, screaming at the top of my lungs.

"Em! Em! Please let me out! Em! I know you're still out there! Please Em!" I pounded on the door, my heart thrumming loudly.

That's when I heard a voice.

"Shh! Baby is all right!"
