Cassie's POV
Sam had been gone longer than I had expected. In fact, it had been hours. Curiosity was getting the best of me and I finally decided to get up and find out where he was and what was taking so long. I swung my legs over the side of the bed and slowly stood up on them, feeling the cold of the stone floor against my bare feet. Quickly I pulled on a T-shirt and a pair of cut off denim shorts, pulled my brush through my hair a few times and then started out, pulling the door shut behind me.
About half way down the hall, which was pretty long, I started feeling extremely hot.
"What's going on... It's never hot in here." I mumbled to myself, remembering that The Cave had no heating other than blankets and huddling together. I was completely alone right now too.
I pushed my feet faster until I found myself sprinting. I felt terrified and found that I was completely lost in the Cave not long after, which only made my terror worse.
Suddenly my entire body felt like it was going to explode from pressure. I was shaking like I just committed a crime and the pain got to the point i couldn't stand anymore, falling to the ground, withering in pain.
My vision was getting blurry and I couldn't hear my whimpering anymore.
Am I dying?
Through my blurry vision I sawmy hand start to change shape and I let out a scream, but I couldn't hear it. My long fingers shrunk back and fur sprouted out of the top of my palm. My nails started changing into claws and I felt fur pushing through my skin on my arms and legs.
I screamed again.
I felt my bones popping out of place and changing sizes as they did, and for a second my body felt extremely deformed, I could even feel my taIl pusing out and my mouth and nose stretching into a snout, but then I realized I was covered completely with fur.
I never would have imagined my first shift to be this painful. How did male pups go through this?
Suddenly, the pain started to die down until it was gone and I realized I was in my wolf form. I circled myself slowly, taking in my wolf form. I wasn't very good at walking, and I kept stumbling. My wolf was silver, with the exception of my black paws.
Being in my wolf form, I remembered small details from my child hood, back when I was only a week old. Before my first shift.
All the memories were cloudy. I couldn't remember details, just feelings. Maybe a few glimpses of Isaac and Aubrey as pups too, a few of mom and dad playing with us. Then I remembered my first shift.
I remembered being so confused and how I had no control, how painful it was and how it had lasted much longer. I also remembered the light that had engulfed me the first time, unlike this time.
Suddenly I wanted to run, to test out my wolf. So I did, I took off running down the long hallway, which ended with a stair case leading outside, I quickly took it. I felt a pull outside for some reason, maybe it was just being a wolf, wanting to be in the wild, but I felt like there was more to it.
Sam.
I ran up the stairs and jumped at the door, pushing it open before quickly running outside.
The smell hit me before I realized what it was. It smelled awful, one of the worst I had ever smelled, but I knew this smell. It was the smell of blood, tears, and death mixed together. The smell of tragody.
Then I heard it and I realized my hearing was back when I wished it wasnt; I heard the sound of howls filled with pain and bones breaking, flesh being ripped right off the wolf it belonged to.
The Rogues came early.
