My jaw drops. I try to talk but no words come out.
"Avery? Are you there?"
"Y-yeah."
"Good. Go answer the door." She lets out a sigh of relief.
I was confused as to why she would have me do that but I did it anyways. I ran downstairs and set my hand on the knob and gently opened the door.
She was here. I drop my phone onto the carpet at the sight of her.
"Mom?"
She nods.
"W-why did you leave me." I could care less that she called me or that she decided she would just show up on my door step. All I wanted was answers and I was determined to get them.
"Avery."
"Why did you leave me?!" I scream.
"I could never make you happy." She admits.
"You never tried! You could have made an effort!"
"It never would have worked!" She shouts back.
"How would you know? You never tried!" I repeat.
"Just listen. Pack your bags we are going home."
"Home? I am home!" I barked.
"Home is in Florida Avery! You are not a legal adult and you will do as I say!"
"You can't just barge in here and tell me what to do! I turn 18 soon! Stop acting like you are now my legal guardian! You left me and you will never be my mom. You lost the life you could have had with me. You were never there for me and if you weren't forced here I'm sure you wouldn't have remembered you had a daughter!"
Her hand presses against my face as she slaps me leaving a red mark on my cheek.
"You make a great first impression!" I said sarcastically while rushing out the door.
"Avery?" Kian spots me.
"Can't talk. I just need to get air and have some time to think things through." I say speeding down the street with my hand still placed on my cheek.
He chases after me and tugs at my shoulder.
"Whats going on?"
"What do you want? I barely know you except for the fact that you're my neighbor!" I screamed.
The anger was building up inside of me. After realizing what I said I turned my back towards him and left.
"Avery! Just tell me. I at least want to help!" He shouted.
"My mom shows up at my door after 17 years that she had abandoned me and expects me to move to Florida with her and when I refused she slapped me. Just when I thought things couldn't get worse." I laugh at my own stupidity.
"Im sorry?" He wasn't sure what to say.
"Don't worry about it." I roll my eyes.
I walk away with this horrible feeling in my stomach. While I was out I thought about the many different things that have recently been occurring in my life. My biological mom decides that she's just going to pretty much kidnap me, the cops want me for a questioning, I have been attempting to cut myself, and my Aunt died. I mean how worse can it get? I always refuse to accept the reality that it is.
One of the biggest things on my mind that was bothering me was why Kian was constantly trying to communicate with me. What did he want from me? After that thought I turned back around to see Kian still standing in the street. I walked up to him and squinted.
