I dived into the building as several explosions went off right outside, the parking lot had become a living hell with mortar fire and shelled out vehicles dotting the broken asfault. in only the matter of a few hours had the enemy troops took the town and the college with relatively little resistance. No time to think though I needed several important things from my room before I could get out of this battlefield that had erupted on the campus. I check the sub machine gun I had looted off of some dead guy and make sure the mag was mostly full I switch it to semi-automatic and get up I must keep moving if I want to survive. I didn’t even bother with the elevators and the squad of mean looking soldiers that I already knew were not friendly was outside systematically killing innocents. It was too late for them I had to look after myself i turned away my stomach turning having to leave innocents to die. I quickly and quietly ran up the staircases pausing at every floor briefly to listen to the mayhem and check outside. By the time I reached my floor I heard the soldiers kick in the doors to the main floor time was up I had to make my stop quick. I ran down the hallway to my room quickly punching the code in and open the door to find my roommates crying friend in the corner her eyes widen as she looks up at me slightly relieved to see it was me but still scared when she looked at my gun. I think for a moment it’s probably too late for my girlfriend she lives in a dorm further down the row closer to where this army came from and it’s probably swarming with soldiers by now. I grab the things I need in a backpack then look at her hugging her knees in the corner. “Come on we don’t have time to waste here lets go” I look out the window in time to see my roommate get executed by a soldier in the middle of the street from our window. He was always book smart not so street smart. “I have to wait for him” I turn to her from the window and say “it’s far too late for him we have to go if you want a chance to live.” her face went completely pale when she heard me say those words having just heard the gun fire. I grab her by the hand pulling her up and away from the window before she has a chance to look out it i check the hall still hearing them come up the main stairs i take her to the fire escape urging her to go down as i close the door quitely behind us. we make our way down the stairs i keep the smg half raised being sure not to let her get in the way of my line of fire. the sounds of explosions gunfire and sirens wailing filled the afternoon sky as we crept from the fire escape hiding ourselves behind the nearby bushes. I knew we needed to find a vehicle soon or find a way to get out of the city if we wanted to survive. I hear a quite gasp come from her as several soldiers walk straight over to the bushes we were hiding behind. My throat dry and my heart pounding all i could do was watch them walk closer to us.
