Scarlett gazed up at the beautiful eneing sky, a rose color that slowly faded into a deep apricot hue. Rose, she thought the corners of her lips tugging upward to form a gentle smile. She glanced over at the girl seated adjacent to her. The beautiful young Rose Farwel, aged seventeen. She had fair skin, nearly flawless in this dim lighting, and thick blonde locks that cascade down her back in intricate waves, framing her perfectly curved heart-shaped face. Her big blue-green eyes, the same ones that always got her exactly what she wanted with one look, were fixated on the passing translucent clouds in the darkening sky. Scarlett had always been jealous of her sister's radiant beauty, which of course was absurd, because she was nearly identical to the girl, just slightly thinner. They were twins, and while most twins had some little flaw that set them apart in appearance, Scarlett and Rose could be clones.
"Scarlett, is something bothering you?" Rose asked in a light, airy voice that held a hint of rasp, not overly high-pitched. She drew her eyes from the magnificent view above her and set them on her sister, a kind smile across her face.
"Oh, no. Nothing, just admiring the colors is all." Said Scarlett, which was partly true. She laid her head back down in the soft, emerald grass and brought her golden, sun-kissed hair over to one side. She felt a vibration in her pocket and fished out her cell phone, tapping the green talk button. "Hello?" She answered, not even bothering to check the caller ID.
"Hey, babe." A farmiliar voice replied on the other end. A deep, slightly gruff voice that caried across a whole football field.
"Steven! Hey, what's up?" Scarlett shot up, wiping the stray bits of grass and dirt from her back. She stretched her arms, nestling the phone in between her ear and her shoulder. She'd been dating Steven for nearly a year now and knew it was love from the moment they met.
He'd been running fast, as if away from someone, his sneakers pounding against the hard cement. The rain was pouring down in thick sheets, making the ground slick and it was a miracle he didn't fall flat on his face already. Scarlett and her friends had just gotten home from a long day vonlunteering at a pre-school to get community service hours in hopes of scholarship money, and were currently standing on her porch to keep out of the rain, locked out of her own home. She boy with the soaking wet shaggy black hair came racing past, tripping over the curb and flying forward, slamming his nose into the hard concrete. It had scared Scarlett half to death, and she had always been extremely squeamish around blood . Despite this, she hurried over to help him, and that was it.
'Nothing much, I was just wondering if you wanted to come hang out later, maybe my place around eight?" He asked absently, tapping his foot on the ground as his eyes glided over the living room of his apartment that he shared with his older brother, whom of which was out partying tonight.
Scarlett thought for a moment and noded as she spoke, "Sure, see you then." And hung up.She caught the look that Rose was giving her, knowing exactly what she meant by it. That mom would never let her out of the house after seven on a school night, especially not to a boy's house. Not even Steven. "Oh Rosey, stop being such a ninny. Mom isn't going to know, because you're going to cover for me. If she asks for me, go downstairs and pretend." She said, her tone growing serious.
Rose sighed, exasperated. "Fine. But if you get caught, it's on you, I wont take the fall for you this time." She agreed, accepting the tight squeeze from her sister. She rolled her eyes and stood up, revealing her petite figure and height of only 5'2. Scarlett reached out her hand and Rose pulled her up gently, patting her on the back. "And always remember Scar, no matter what, do not under any circumstances get pregnant." She tried to keep a straight face, but it was hard and she finally ended up giggling along with Scarlett. They both knew that abstinence was the biggest thing for Scarlett, sex before mairage was considered a horrible thing to her. Not due to religion, but morals set in place by herself. She hugged her sister one last time and started down the hill, the opposite direction from their quaint little two-bedroom home.
Rose scowled as she turned around, ruffling her golden hair with her right hand as she made her way back to her house. So perfect. Always sees the happy side, always knows just what to say. She thought, her blood boiling with a secret hatred for her sister as it always had. For some reason, Scarlett irked her, rubbed her the wrong way and Rose couldn't stand the girl.
