My name is Nicole. I was a mostly normal person, probably not unlike you. I went to a small school in a rural town in Michigan. Sure I had my quirks, just weird things that happened to me sometimes. Once I had been thinking about cats, then all I could do was meow. Another time I swore I head two birds discussing the best types of worms to eat.I was sure I wasn't imagining things, but I think My parents thought I was crazy, because they took me to a therapist named Dr. Jacob. He was tall and thin, with dark tan skin and a graying goatee. He wore a black business suit that looked pretty uncomfortable, and he had a gruff, deep voice with a hint of an accent I couldn't quite place.
Dr. Jacob had me explain in detail what I had seen and heard. He speculated it could be a lack of sleep or a bad reaction to food, which made me feel worse than ever. Not wanting to seem crazy, I nodded and agreed. That day, when I got home, I when in to see my brother, Colby. I knocked on the door, and not hearing an answer, I walked inside and froze. He was hacking away at a practice dummy with a leaf-shaped sword. I slowly stumbled out of his room without saying a word and ran to mine. I fell onto my bed and just lied there. What was I going to do about this? I couldn't tell my parents, they wouldn't believe me. Maybe I could talk to Colby? But what if i walked back in and he was just sitting there, reading a book or something? I would sound like a lunatic! I decided this was the best option though, and slowly walked back into his room. As I had thought, he was just sitting on his bed, looking through a wilderness magizine. Dang it! I thought. I still continued in. Knocking on the door frame to get his attention, I walked up to the foot of his bed.
Now I should mention that Colby is two years older than I am. He used to share a room with my older sister and Colby's twin sister Emma, but she moved out last year to live with her friends in a bigger house. Colby still lives here but is planning on going to an army camp later this summer. I glanced at Emma's side of the room. It made me a little sad, because I missed her, but i quickly turned my attention back to colby.
" Waddya want?" asks Colby.
"Well....I, um..." I stuttered. "This is going to sound crazy, but I, um, I walked in and thought I saw you hacking at a mannequin with a real sword..."
Colby looked at me, concerned. "Are you feeling okay, sis?" he asked. He looked nervous. Colby shifted uncomfortably. Rubbing his neck, he said, "Mabye you should go to see Dr. Jacob again sis.. I don't even know where i could have found a sword. "He was lying. I could tell he was. I started back to my room before turning suddenly and looking back at his room. I studied it for a second and spotted it. Peeking under his closet door was the hilt of a sword, hardly visible but clearly there.
I ran back to my room and slammed the door shut behind me. Pulling out my phone, I pulled out my last resort. maybe Emma would have an explanation? I started to type.Hey, u have a minute?
Shure, what's up nic?
I need your help with something
What is it?
I think I saw Caleb using
A real sword
I think he got one a couple of years ago When mom and dad took
us to comic con?
Yeah
Relief flooded through me. That made sense. He was just practicing with his sword to see what he could do with it. He was probably trying to hide it because he was embarrassed about learning sword skills. Yeah, that's it!••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
It was said once that we are out greatest critics. Whoever said that was right because this was horrible before I fixed it. More chapters will be fixed and improved and more chapters will be written but for now Hopefully I made this better.
