“Love is not an age, it has no limit or minimum.” -Kaytee.
I don't know how long I had been lying here, just weeping with self-pity, but judging by the amount of melted wax from the candles, and the dimming sunlight, I would say pretty long. My tears had long dried up, my eyes still burning and felt warm to the touch, while my arms wrapped around my legs, curling myself into a ball.
I could never marry Peter.
I could never be his wife.
I could never force him to do such a thing.
My thoughts were broken as I heard a familiar swoosh of air, signaling Peter's arrival. I quickly flipped over on my stomach, burying my tear streaked face into the pillows so he wouldn't see. Trying to relax my body as much as possible, I attempted to even out my breathing to passable fake sleep. The click of the door nob announced him stepping into the room, his nearly silent footsteps making their way across to the foot of the bed.
“I know you're not asleep, I've watched you too many times.” his voice rang out, clear with concern. When I didn't answer him, he sighed, crawling onto the bed, wrapping his arms around me, flipping me onto my back so that I was facing him, though I was able to keep an arm draped over my eyes.
“Why did you run off? Sammy's been asking about you all day, and it's been killing me not knowing what's wrong.” he whispered, puling my weak arm away from my eyes. I slowly opened them, seeing his stunned expression as his eyes drifted over my face.
