"Good morning, Alfred." Claire greeted the old butler as she walked into the kitchen where Alfred had prepared some breakfast for the morning and sat on the wooden chair.
"Good morning, Miss Claire. How are you?" He asked her, giving her a mountain of pancakes and poured a lot of chocolate syrup on it; just as she always wanted.
"Never better, Alfred." She replied, picking up a fork and a spoon and happily dug in.
He smiled, nodding his head and gave her a glass of milk. "Master Wayne informed me about the mission and asked me to keep an eye on you. Is there any particular reason, Miss Claire?"
"It was my Dad. He didn't let me join him. He's afraid that I will follow them to the Black Gate." Claire replied with mouthful of pancakes. "Do you know when they will get back?"
"I'm afraid not, Miss Claire." Alfred shook his head. "But, I'm sure your father had a good reason to not let you join him."
"He better have."
"Good morning, Alfred." An unfamiliar voice was heard coming towards the kitchen and when Claire turned around, she saw a boy, probably a year older than her, entering the room.
With his jet-black hair slicked to the back and his dark grey eyes glowed mysteriously, the boy was handsome, Claire had to admit. His body was lean and athletic, an acrobatic-like body; Claire wondered if he was an acrobat or probably some sort of athlete. But underneath those obvious things about him, she could see sadness and grief hidden in his eyes.
"Umm... Alfred, who is this?" Claire couldn't help but to ask as she was curious about the mysterious boy.
The boy noticed the black-haired girl sitting at the kitchen table with mouthful of pancakes; so unlady-like and raised an eyebrow at the Wayne family's butler, internally asking the same thing as her.
Alfred smiled at the two children. "Oh, I notice that Master Wayne hasn't introduce the both of you. Let me do the honor." He chuckled at his own joke. "Miss Claire, meet Master Dick, Master Wayne's adopted son. Master Dick, this is Miss Claire, Master Wayne's goddaughter."
Dick walked closer to the girl and extended his arm to her. "Hi, I'm Richard Grayson. People call me, Dick. So you're the one that Bruce always talked about."
Claire took his hand and shook it. "The good ones, I hope. I'm Claire. Claire Kent. It's nice to meet you, Dick."
Dick smiled. "Nice to meet you too, Claire." He replied, taking a seat across her.
"Alfred, Uncle Bruce never told me he adopted a son." Claire turned to the butler as he served Dick a plate of bacons and hashbrowns.
"That is because he wanted to suprise you." Alfred answered, smilling at the girl.
She glanced at the boy who was apparently observing her and felt an unfamiliar feeling in the pit of her stomach. Nervous? Excitement? She didn't know. But she hoped it was normal. "W-well, we can be friends." She mentally slapped herself for stuttering in front of him; embarassing herself.
Dick was shocked by her statement and once he regained his composure, he grinned. "Sure, why not? I would love to be your friend."
Claire beamed happily and shoved a spoonful of pancake into her mouth. She munched the food in her mouth and swallowed them whole, moaning in pleasure as the sweet taste of the pancake tickled her tastebuds. Once she was done, she pushed her plate to the side and turned to Dick with a sheepish smile on her face.
"So, Dick. How old are you?" She asked the boy in front of her.
Dick looked up at her and as his grey eyes met with her aqua ones, he hid the blush on his face. Claire was quite a gorgeous girl. With her shoulder-length silky black hair and her perfect tan skin, he couldn't help but to stare at her while she was not looking. Not to mention her mesmerizing blue eyes which reflected determination and hope. Her athletic body was unlike any other girl her age, it was strong and on-guard at all times. She seemed like a greek goddess; beautiful but dangerous.
