Hey, Electra here again,
Now you molded your heroes and villains but you need a somewhere to put them am I right?
In this discussion of Mythical Lands & Creatures ---- The Do’s and The Clichés, I will help you create your land and the monsters that your hero or villain can fight as they make their way through their personal journey.
Mythical Lands
· The Do’s
History – Every Mythical land needs a back story. Even if you don’t contribute it to the story write it down and get more familiar with the land you care molding. You’re basically like Christopher Columbus (only way cooler) and you just discovered a new land, minus the Indians and the kicking them off their land scenario. As a Explore of this new land you need to know more about how your: Nation, Country, Kingdom- came into existence wither it be a lore about ancient Gods forming it into existence or your version of the big bang. Every land needs that kind of detailed information so you as the other can get to better know where you characters will make their lives.
Government – With in the land there need to be some type of government to give the people order. Something to make you land and or society function as a whole, give it some history and make sure you at least give out a few details in your novel. Why? Because there are always a few people who could be interested in your government so give them more than enough information to satisfy (Not Bore Them) so they can better understand the world they are exploring with your HERO/Villain.
Population - Now you need to fill up your land with people, elves, dwarfs, and humanoids whatever. You can’t just make a land and not have people, throw in a few race rivalries background a bit to get the pot boiling. Explain about each race or show the reader what kind of people they are through actions and communication. Give each race a different category besides lumping them into one huge group. So many novels I have read where there is just one type of giant, one type of elf, vampire. Make them stand out for example:
Vampires :
· Gurma – Northern tribe with dark-skin, ruby colored eyes and matching hair. Stick to the mountain, wear animal fur for clothing. Have inhuman strength and not much talkers.
· Rango – Southern tribe with pale skin, yellow eyes and raven colored hair. Winter born sticks to low temperature regions, wear ware furr and hunt with artic wolves. Animalistic nature.
· Bloods-Underearth tribe, cave dwellers, purple skin, black eyes, skin carved in elegant tribe. Can see well in the dark and move among the shadows.
See what I did there?
I split them up so no vampire is different. It would set you apart from other stories if you did this to all your population inhabitants or maybe a few. Overall, it would be less boring and more interesting to see the many different vampires, Giants, humans, humanoids you can come up with.
Land – Everything doesn’t have to be green grass, blue skies in your world you created. Once in a while throw in a purple sky with a yellow moon and yellow grass. Give the air the scent of honey, or make the trees at night glow. Or the stars turn into different colors. Don’t make everything the same, mix it up and be different!
Mythical Creatures
· The Do’s
Werewolves – Throw in some beat/humans. Everyone needs a thrill once in a while.
Vampires – Don’t make them sparkle, sometimes a hero need to be a buffy for a day.
Fairies - Who wouldn’t want a swarm of razor sharp teeth pixies nipping at their flesh?
Dragon – Giant Lizards…..Check!
Necromancers– Please they really need more of these.
Incubus – No one ever writes novel about male womanizers anymore…..
That’s all I can think of at the moment but if you have any other creatures to add go for it. Fill your world up with as many exotic creatures you can find!
· The Clichés
Attractive Vampires- Overused. Yes Ladies, no more attractive bloodsuckers. Not everything that’s undead has to be Sexy or Yummy. They can still be really cool but for once I would love to see a vampire that’s fat and bad ass. Once in a while you can throw in a hottie but enough is enough!
Vampires + Human love interest- No more. Too many of these on wattpad; it’s an overused cliché and it would be nice to see a vampire branch off on to a werewolf chick. * Hint. Hint*
Werewolves + Moon - I know that some love the shifter type of werewolves but…..I kind of want to read one that just shifts on the full moon once in a while. The shifter thing is getting over used a well regardless of how different the plot is, it’s still the same free will to turn under the full moon scenario.
Werewolf = Crazed Killer – Not all werewolves have to been sane. Make a few that a huge hairy best and just shred people once in a while. I don’t want to read ones with feeling and girl problems anymore and people will get tired of it sooner or later.
That’s it for now sorry it’s so short, but the next one will be even longer I promise. The next discussion will be: A Fantasy Hero’s Prophecy/ Journey – What to Do and NOT DO!
See ya next time,
Oh and come take a look at my Novel called: Ring Of Solomon….It has Angels, Demons, and Fallen Angels. I promise you won’t be disappointed!
