Papyrus Goes Missing

It was a quiet, calm night at the mansion. Rue was walking down the hallway, muttering to himself.
"Ah, what a lovely  evening. The moon is a "waxing crescent"...or is that a "waning gibbons"?"
He walked past Papyrus's room, his door cracked open.
"Whatever it is, it's a beautiful night to not be stuck in Gaster's...lab?"
A bright flash from Papyrus's room distracted Rue from his thoughts. Peaking in, he saw Papyrus working on a machine that made a portal appear. When it appeared, he ran through it, causing the machine to shut down immediately afterwards. Rue walked to the machine, trying to start it back up.
"...pap?.. Papyrus?.. PAPYRUS! GET YOUR ASS BACK HERE THIS INSTANT!"
Unfortunately, the machine would not start up.
"...oh dear..."

Some time later, Rue had Ross, Fuku, Spice, Frisk, Korey, Glace, and Brass together in the living room.
"I've called you all here tonight because I am worried, and Pap tends to call you guys when he's upset." said Rue.
"Rue, what's going on?" asked Ross.
"A week ago, Papyrus went through this machine," Rue explained, teleporting the machine in front of everyone. "And he has yet to return."
"A WEEK AGO?! And you're just telling us NOW?!" yelled Korey.
"How have you kept this quiet for so long?" asked Ross.
"...it's been difficult." answered Rue.
"Wait...Papyrus has a machine just like this that he uses to travel to other universes, and it keeps track of it's history. Couldn't you just use that to find what AU he went to?" pondered Brass.
"If that was the case, I wouldn't be here talking to you guys about it. The machine shut down right after he went through a portal, plus it doesn't keep track of it's history." explained Rue.
"If the machine, won't work, then what are we supposed to do to help Pap?" asked Glace.
"Come with me. I'll explain on the way." said Rue, walking outside, everyone else following.

Rue started walking to an old building, about a mile away from the mansion, and away from the town.
"Many years ago, Papyrus and his father, Gaster, used to be fascinated by AUs. I don't know much about that time, and any recorded information of it seems to be missing from his lab records. I've been through every scrap of paper that Gaster and Papyrus ever touched in those libraries and nothing has come up...but I KNOW that he and Pap have a history of studying AUs. There MUST be something about it left in one of his original libraries." Rue explained.
"Gaster's...library?!" exclaimed Ross.
"Gaster has been gone for HUNDREDS of years. How could he still have a library in this town...particularly one that Ross doesn't know about?" asked Spice.
"You'd think someone would have converted it to a  gym or a bakery by now." said Fuku.
"Gaster's magical study wasn't IN town per say. It was deep in the snowy woods deep in the underground. When the barrier broke, Papyrus took all of his research and hid it deep in the woods here. The building itself is difficult to navigate. It was built by Papyrus, and he didn't want plebeians being able to find their way around." explained Rue.
"So you've explored the caverns? What's the library like?" asked Ross.
"I haven't found it yet. I'm apparently one of those 'plebeians'."
"You know one of these adventures, I'd like to go to a tropical island paradise instead of into a dark, old building." commented Glace.
"Oh c'mon Glace. Where's your sense of adventure?" asked Spice.
"It's in the comfort of a day spa, and a pedicure, thank you very much." answered Glace.
"If anyone can understand and navigate these corridors, it's you Ross. Pap speaks highly of your intellect. He sometimes compares you to Gaster himself...perhaps you can channel that parallel on this quest." said Rue, coming towards the building.
"Pap compares me to Gaster? That's...unbelievable." muttered Ross.
"Personally, I think you're more like Papyrus when he was younger. Gaster was more like Fuku. Now be off. Find what you can. We NEED to locate my father...I feel an unknown darkness already pressing upon our universe without his presence." said Rue.
"Uh...Rue, aren't you coming with us?" asked Frisk.
"I cannot. I must stay back at the mansion to make sure it is not attacked again. Best of luck. I have faith you will triumph." exclaimed Rue, walking back to the mansion.
"We won't let you down Rue!" yelled Ross.
"I hope there isn't any monsters in here." commented Korey.
"Now WHY would you SAY that? That is INVITING that kind of stuff to happen!" yelled Spice, walking in with everyone to the dusty, abandoned library.
