Complete silence all over the room ...
It was dark and quiet except for the drips of rain that fell on to the window and the lightening that lit the dark room then faded away.
The whistling wind broke through the holes in the walls spreading cold air in the place.
There, from a small wooden bed in the corner of the ragged room, a sound of clattering teeth came up. A shivering young girl hid under the bed sheet. She moved her trembling small hands close to her heart. She could see her heavy breathes before disappearing in the air. When the thunder stroked again, she gasped in fear. She ran out of bed and out of the room.
She opened the door of her parent's room, climbed their vast bed and hid her face in the pillows. Her mother's aroma made her nostalgic. Tears popped out of her eyes as she remembered how her mother hugged her before leaving with her father. They had to visit her sick grandma. How could they leave me alone? she thought wiping her tears. They are really cruel, I won't forgive them ever...
*Flash back*
Two weeks ago, the Martins came to visit Mr and Mrs William and their 7-year-old only daughter Marrice. Marrice went out to the back garden to play. Emma- the only daughter of the Martins who was nearly the same age as Marrice -followed her and snatched her ball.
"Give it back!" Marrice said with a frown. "No, I won't.." Emma said and stuck her tongue out to Marrice. Tears popped out of her eyes, "Give it back or I'll tell your mom..."
"If you want it, go get it..."Emma said then threw the ball in the pool.
Marrice was annoyed, "What have you done?" she said and pushed Emma into the pool. Emma who couldn't swim cried for help so Marrice ran to her mother. "Mama!! Emma!!" she said terrified.
The Martins and the Williams ran to rescue the little girl. Since that day Marrice had been punished and exiled in her room. When her grandma got sick that night, they asked her if she wanted to come to visit her. "No I don't want to go... Just stay away." she cried.
*End of flash back*
I want your warm hug, mom.. she said in a shaky voice pulling her ruby stone pendant closer to her. She started to feel drowsy and her thoughts banished one by one. Everything went blank...
She felt something pulling her inward as if she was being swallowed. She tried to open her eyes or move but in vain. She was paralyzed, and the world spin round her. Suddenly, stop!!
Everything stopped and went back to silence.. But something was different... The smell of grass and soil beneath her penetrated her nostrils.. She opened her eyes, it was real grass.. She moved her eyes around the place to see mosses, ferns, wildflowers and shrubs... Trees everywhere!! It's A REAL FOREST!!!
"Wow" she said with wide eyes. While still trying to understand what just happened to her, she heard a loud voice. " There she is!!! " a man appeared among the trees.
He pointed at her, then a group of men moved in her direction. They were dressed in the same strange uniform, tunics, hoses and cloaks. It reminded her of the "soldiers" she saw when reading her illustrated fiction stories with her mother. A voice from within told her to run. She tried to get up and escape but... this wasn't her dress, these big hands were not her hands and these long legs were not her legs.
WHERE THE HELL AM I AND WHAT HAPPENED TO ME?, she thought alarmed.
"SEIZE HER !!!" the loud man said as they surrounded her. She swallowed the big lump in her throat as she watched the cruel eyes lying on her. With her hands all tied with ropes, she had to walk with these soldiers to the unknown. How did I get that big? she thought looking at her big bare feet. She became really tall too. Who are these people? They don't seem like friends...
She let out a long sigh before the trumpet was blown to fright the hell out of her. Marrice looked up to see big wooden gates of a HUGE castle opening up. She was dragged by the soldier, her big feet stumbling to the rough ground. They entered a big hall that had many window covered with long curtains and a table stood in the corner. "Ouch, easy!!" Marrice cried at the soldier who pushed her to the ground.
"We caught her your highness" the soldier said.
"Well... Well... Well..." a loud ironic voice echoed through the big hall. "Our witch is finally here.." said a man in his mid twenties smiling wickedly.
He was a smart man in a blue velvet tunic, black hose, brown long boots and a long black cloak. He was blonde with short wavy hair and fine roman nose. A silver earring twinkled in his right ear. Marrice couldn't take her eyes off him, he was so like prince charming in the stories she read. "Wow!" the word skipped her mouth as she gazed over him.
The man raised a brow in a questioning expression. A shiver ran through her spine as she looked away quickly. What are you doing stupid? You are gazing all over the man!! she thought. Wake up and ask him where you are and how you are here...
Marrice stood to her feet still unbalanced from the dramatic change in her body... "May I ask where am I exactly?" she said politely. The man stunned by her question let out a loud laughter, then he patted the oaken table beside him firmly. "What the hell are you saying witch??" he snorted. "Don't play dumb on me..." Marrice was taken by his language, from the way he talked about her, it seemed he had known her. But why was he calling her "witch"?
"I really don't know what you are talking about... I don't know where in hell this place is! And please stop calling me witch. It's impolite!! This is what mother said."she said recalling what her mother said about swearing whenever she heard it in T.V.
"You!!" he turned to the soldier standing by her in fury. "You didn't bring the wrong person did you??"
The poor soldier trembled, "N-No your highness, I'm sure she is the right sorceress... Her red stone even glistened when she cast her spells on the men.." The blonde man waved for the soldiers to dismiss.
My ruby pendant, she thought as she lift her hand to touch the smooth gemstone around her neck. Sorceress!!! she swallowed a lump in her throat as the man approached her and his wicked smile was back.
"I see.. The great witch Hersilia is trying to mock me..." he said grasping a piece of paper from the table beside him. "Then I'll make a deal with you... I'll ask you some questions... A true answer... you'll be free. A wrong answer... you'll be fired..." Marrice watched the flames rising from his hand to burn the paper and turn it to ashes in a split of a minute.
Marrice frowned, "I don't accept the dirty deal.. I AM NO HERSILIA!!! I AM NO WITCH!! I AM NO SORCERESS!!! " she cried.
"Wrong answer!!" He said gesturing his hand in her direction. She watched the flame ball fly towards her. I'm going to die!! I'm really going to die!!
