We were never really close to begin with, just schoolmates who happened to bump into each other every once in a while. After seeing him enough times to make me curious, I did a bit of research, his name, I will hide him under the name "Brad", probably because Brad Pitt was the first to come to my mind. He was in a not-so-famous band in school, only unknown because he was not the main vocalist and the members were mediocre, except for him. I could tell from his Soundcloud that his voice possesed something I could not comprehend, something good that will lead him far. He wasn't that popular either but was getting there, he's too cute for life, but so humble and shy that no one except those close to him and me could notice how he looked. From that day on, I started admiring him, admiring him that was just at my very fingertips but still could not reach out and grab.
Time flew quick and for a while I did not think of him. While that happened, he gained a bit of attention, others started noticing what I noticed first, his talent. He started performing at a few small gigs here and there, he even got himself beautiful girlfriend, who was sweet and soft-spoken. And even after all that's happened, he was still the same guy that I admired, just slightly more out of reach. While I stand still, he's steadily moving away. Soon he graduated, I'm younger than him, so I'm still in school. Every one remembers the legacy of their batch, a normal thing for us undergrads, while I remember him. I tell my friends about him and they fell for his precious voice too, but the harder those around me fall, the deeper I fall too. Pretty soon, our school had quite a few fans of him even though he already graduated.
In his university, he gained new friends and acts like he completely forgot about his highschool life. Sure, he acted the same, but it was almost as if he cut ties with his previous friends. They still talk, but not often, they kind of lost their former closeness. The only part of his highschool that he retained was that soft-spoken girl, no longer his girlfriend, but his "Bestest friend in the whole universe", according to him. He went to so many more gigs and professionally, he was getting somewhere. He made many more friends and became quite popular. Many of his friends were like him, rising stars as they call it, or even more. But the thing that hurt me most was that he took a giant leap away from me and is still steadily walking, while all I can do is stand still and watch, watch and say that he was my first love-- wait let me correct that, he was my schoolmate.
But no matter how many facts cotinue to change, one fact remains the same,
In each moment, he was taking a step closer to his dream,
but a step farther from me.
