Hmm, what to pick, what to pick, decisions, decisions. Should I go for the dark chocolate fudge brownies or the Mocha flavored ice-cream that was absolutely to die for? The question was something I was seriously considering until factoring in my mood I chose the ice-cream and tossed it into my cart. I had got enough food to last me and enough ingredients to make a multitude of dishes, I found cooking and baking to be a relaxing pass-time I didn't get to do nearly as often as I'd like.

I even had my ingredients for my dinner tonight, potato's, hamburger meat and a packet of taco seasoning, I was going to enjoy some taco-pie tonight, it was one of my personal favorites, I had the recipe remembered by heart. As I chose one of the less busy check-out lines, the nice looking older lady of a cashier smiled to me. "Hi there darling, I haven't seen you around town before, are you knew?" her southern drawl had a lulling effect, but not enough for me to be open with this woman.

I knew from experience even the nicest people can stab you in the back with the right motivation, it had happened before and the way my luck was it would likely happen again. "Yeah, just moved in near the dog park." I smiled back, that seemed like a safe enough answer. "You happen to have a job yet, do you darling?" her question seemed honest enough, but also extremely confused me. "Um... No." I mumbled out, eyes drifting down to my tennis shoes, why was this woman asking me if I had a job yet?

"The reason I'm asking is I know a friend that's just starting a nice little Diner out that way, I'm sure he would appreciate the help if you were interested. I just noticed the ingredients your buying and figured you seemed like the type that might like that sort of thing." was the woman reading my mind or something. "I actually do need a job, but where is this Diner supposed to be at?" I asked trying to think if I had seen any help wanted signs in the area, none came to mind.

The woman quickly described the building and where it was located and I remembered passing by it on my way into town, it seemed like a homey enough place to try a shot at getting a job. "I might just look into that." I smiled to the nice older cashier, she was someone I could find myself liking if I wasn't too careful. "Wait here a second darling I have to make a call, Jenny can finish ringing you up." the woman motioned a younger girl over, disappearing before I had the chance to ask why.

I quickly payed for my groceries and waited for the woman to return, not sure why I listened to her, not sure why I stayed. "Good, you're still here. I made a call and my friend happens to be open tonight and I gave a good word if you'll stop by there, he will be waiting on you darling." the woman drawled as I stared at her in shock. "You didn't have to do that." I stuttered out, wide eyed at the thought this woman who didn't even know me was offering so much, and I wasn't even sure she knew what it meant to me.

"Don't worry about it little bird, consider it southern hospitality. Now you best get going you have a boss man to meet." the woman shooed me out the door, not even waiting for my thanks. I was a bit surprised with the southern hospitality even more so for the 'little bird' remark what was with the city and comparing me to winged creatures. I numbly loaded my groceries into Beauty as the boys sniffed at the bags, scolding them when they stuck their noses where it didn't belong.

"I might not be dressed for a job interview but I might as well give it a go, don't want to keep a possible future boss waiting." I muttered to myself before starting the Jeep and heading to the little Diner I remembered seeing, a small homey brick building had never seemed so imposing to me before. "Here goes nothing." I gulped, taking a deep breath as I opened the door and stepped inside, the smell of baking had my stomach growling, apples were definitely not a good lunch.
