I carried on with my day ignoring Alex as I would have any other day. Especially after he'd embarrassed me not once, but twice, and in the same day to top it off. Life was great. I was living a teenage dream.
After school, I headed home, seeing that Jake wasn't picking me up today. While I limped the twenty minutes to my house, my phone rang and I answered without checking the caller ID.
"Hello?"
"Hey, where are you?" It was Jake.
"You were late. I left. Be on time next time."
I heard a groan from the other side of the phone. "What street are you on? I'll get you."
After telling him the address and hanging up, I sat on the curb, waiting for his car to show. When I saw it, I flagged him to the sidewalk where he helped me up and into the car. I sat there in silence while we drove, not sure what to say. Jake finally started a conversation.
"You hungry?"
"Are you?"
"I'm asking you, Lia." Only he called me Lia. I liked when he called me it, it sounded nice coming from him, a cute nickname.
"Sure, I guess. What were you thinking?"
"Gourmet McDonald's?"
"Oh, only the best from you," I said sarcastically, smiling and looking out the window.
"Only for you." We went through the drive-thru of the McDonald's, me getting a large sweet tea and snack wrap, Jake getting a Big Mac and medium Coke.
On our way out, he caught me watching him. "See something you like?" He's teasing me. Blushing and ashamed, I put my head down and took a sip of my tea.
"Awe, don't be shy, Lia. You can stare if you wanna."
"I wasn't...I wasn't staring." That sounding like a question.
"The stuttering makes it seems like you were." Change the subject before this gets worse.
"So we're going to Cougar tonight right?" The Cougar was the name of the club we go to big-time point nine percent of the time we went clubbing. Why? It's nearby, the drinks are cheap, but good, and the guys say they like to get a good fuck. Maybe an older lady. The man whores I choose to hang out with.
When we got to my house, Celia's car was gone, which was exactly what I was hoping for.
"Wanna come in? Drink up her beers?"
"I have to drive, did you forget?"
"Just one. One won't hurt." Come on man, I'm practically begging now.
He hopped out which I was hoping was a yes. I grabbed my tea and stepped out. He was on my side of the car and I took the advantage to pin him to the car and kiss him fiercely. I will admit, I am a but fearless when it comes to Jacob.
"Still don't wanna come in?" He jerked his head towards the house, obviously saying yes. I smiled and walked up the steps, opening the door to let him in.
We went into the kitchen and I started to walk towards the fridge when he grabbed my wrist, pulling me close to him. My heart started pounding rapidly while I looked up at him, waiting for him to say, to do something. The expected kiss never happened. He just smiled and said, "You better not be hooking me up with piss beer."
