I was now 20 weeks pregnant. In my opinion, I was beginning to look like the size of a bus, but Charlie disagreed. I think he only said it to make me feel better. This morning we had to sort the pub out for Christmas as it was the first day of December today. I woke up early as the babies were kicking and I couldn't sleep. I showered and put on some jeans and a stripy jumper as well as some shoes. I then sorted out my hair and make up before going downstairs to start sorting things out. I started putting up some decorations as well as clearing the dishwasher and putting the glasses away.
I was standing on the bench putting up some fairy lights when I heard someone come downstairs. I assumed it was Charlie as Harry never usually got out of bed before about 3. I heard the padding of footsteps coming through into the bar before a voice saying,
"What are you doing up there Isla?" Harry asked as he rushed over. I handed him the bundle of fairy lights in my hand and he helped me down.
"I just am trying to get this done before we have to go to the scan later." I told him as I sat down on one of the bar stools.
"Are you nervous? Is that why you're being like this?" He asked me as he continued what I had been doing.
"Being like what?" I asked him.
"Like you were the first time Charlie came for dinner, and the way you were the day before your wedding. The same way you are every one of my birthdays, or Mum's birthdays or Elsa's or Jessie's. I know you Isla, better than anyone, better than Charlie and Michelle. I think I got it from Mum. You just hide your problems, like you always have done." He said. By this time, he was standing opposite me holding onto my hands.
"Oh Harry, how did I get to be so lucky to be your big sister, hey?" I said to him as I ruffled his already messy hair.
"I dunno, I am pretty amazing right, are you worried though? About the scan?" He asked me. I nodded and he pulled me into a hug.
"I'm just worried that something might not be right and I dunno, I'm just worried that something might be wrong with them." I said as I put my hands on bump.
"Stop over thinking it Isla Smiler. Now, do you want some breakfast?" He said and we both went through to the back room, where I switched on the TV and sat down while Harry began to make me some breakfast.
Once we were finished, Charlie still wasn't awake so Harry and I went back into the bar and put up the banners. I stood behind the bar, while Harry stood on the chair putting it up.
"That's not quite the middle, go left a bit." I said. As he was pinning it up, I felt Charlie wrap his arms around my bump and kiss my neck.
"Hello beautiful, hello my two little peanuts." He said before kissing my cheek. "How long have two you been up?" He asked me.
"A while," I said, before Harry jumped down from the bench after putting up the banner. We then all put the decorations up together and opened the pub. Harry made us all some lunch before going for his driving lesson, as he'd recently starting taking them. Bethany and Sean arrived to take over the bar, and Charlie and I headed to the hospital for my scan. Charlie drove, as I sat nervously in the passenger seat beside him.
We were almost there, when he took his hand off the steering wheel and placed it in my hands, which were clutched in my lap. I turned to him and he winked at me.
"They'll be fine," he said to me. I smiled at me, before replying,
"I know they will."We soon were finished in the hospital, after finding out that we were having a boy and a girl. We were so excited so we went home, told Harry, Michelle and various other people. Everything carried on as usual, because even though I had worried the babies were absolutely fine.
That evening, Charlie and I were both working at the pub. Harry was helping out, clearing glasses and stuff as he usually did for a bit of money on a Friday or Saturday night. Michelle, kate and Aidan were also in the pub, as we'd been celebrating about the babies. The pub was loud but we heard some shouting coming from outside. Suddenly Craig ran in and said they needed a first aid kit. I went into the kitchen in the back to get it. It took me a while to find it and by the time I got back the pub had fallen almost silent. I brought the first aid kit out and everyone watched me as I looked over at Craig.
