Countless times you have read about Talon and their terroristic attacks all over the world, but you would have never imagined of being involved into one.
The main plaza of your city was reduced to rubble. Police officers and nurses were running around like crazy to help the people involved in the attack but you were also doing your share of work. As an ex Overwatch medic, you took care of those with more serious injuries -- luckily, there weren't as many as you thought there were.
What terrified you the most was the fact that all of this damage was made by just one man. You shivered, thinking about what could have happened if the police hadn't come in time.
You had just escorted your last patience, a middle-aged man who had a deep cut on his leg, back to his family, when you saw a cloud of pitch black smoke coming from one of the destroyed houses. You jumped, immediately recognizing the terrible assassin's signature move. And so, without hesitation, you pulled out your trustworthy pistol and followed the smoke inside the building.
You held the small but powerful gun in front of you and with careful steps, you explored what was left of the interiors of the house. Room after room, you only found dust and debris in front of you. With a frustrated sigh, you turned to leave the bedroom.
And there he was.
The man in the black cape was aiming one of his shotguns right at your head, probably smirking behind his mask.
"You have always been the naive type, (y/n)" he said in a deep and rough voice.
You tried to hold your weapon firmly, but you soon noticed how futile it was -- you were frightened, and your hands were shaking madly. You took a few deep breaths. "How... Do you know my name?" was the only thing you managed to say, forcing yourself to look straight at his mask.
"Ask yourself that." he responded arrogantly.
Your eyes widened. "Gabe?" you muttered without believing in your own words, "But you-"
"Were supposed to be dead. Well, I was left to suffer instead." he cut you short. The man slowly lowered his gun, maybe for resentment, maybe because he was enjoying the sight of your pained face.
You dropped your pistol and covered your mouth with a hand. "You really are... Gabe..." you murmured through the tears while taking small steps towards the dark figure. You had loved Reyes for God knows how long and you were destroyed when they told you what had happened to him. Having him standing there felt wrong... And yet you couldn't help but be happy. You closed your hands in two shaky fists and laid them on his chest, hiding your tearful face behind them. "I'm glad... I'm so, so very glad!" you whined.
The man stood still and you wondered why. Was he waiting for something or was he doing it just for pity? You mind was full of theories and conjectures but they all vanished when, for a brief moment, you felt his hand caressing your head.
You immediately looked up but sadly now there was only smoke where the man stood. You snapped back to reality and found yourself alone in a desolated house, with you fists hanging midair.
You decided to rest on the dusty bed for a moment; your heart rate began to slow down but your head still hurt.
"I will come for you, (y/n)" were his last, cold words, and they penetrated into your mind more than any bullet could have ever done.
