Junkertown: located in the Outback of Central Australia, is the home base for the Junkers, ruthless outlaws who live without rules.

You were very young when the omnium of Australia exploded and irradiated the whole region. Your father had died in the incident and you and your mother had lived in Junkertown ever since. For a smart boy like you, that place was pure hell. People were rude to you and treated you as a wimp just because you weren't as foolish as them.

The only good things were the Mech battles. You loved watching those giant machines built from scraps fighting each other.

Fascinated by those austere pieces of junk, you began building them yourself and thanks to your new work as a mechanic, you were able to befriend one of the few good people left in that nightmare of a town. Her name was Hana Song and she was the strongest mech pilot you had ever met. She was fun to have around and always knew how to cheer you up when you were feeling down.

You were moving boxes full of scrap parts in your garage when you saw the familiar mech coming straight at you. Right before the machine entered in the garage, Hana jumped out of it.

"Perfect landing!" she yelled, as the mech stopped right in the middle of your barn, just a few centimeters away from you.

You sighed, even though you were used to her gaudy entrances. "Hello Hana." you said while moving towards her.

"Hello (y/n)! How's my favorite nerd doing today?" she winked at you.

"The nerd's fine, thank you. Did you find anything good during your patrol today?"

"You bet I did!" she stated eagerly, taking out a weird looking badge from her pocket. "Look! It's a cute rabbit!"

"More like a mutated rabbit" you chuckled, receiving a punch from the lady in front of you.

"I wanted to give this to you as a gift, but I guess I'll give it to Jamie instead." she pouted and turned around.

"Will you forgive me if I give you a can of soda?" you asked but she just shrugged. "Coming right up!" you said.

You went into your house and a few moments later you were back to your barn, this time with two cans of soda in your hands. You sat next to Hana, who was now resting on the ground, watching the sunset, and you passed her the tin.

"Something on your mind, junker?" you asked.

"Do you ever wonder about what you could have become if you lived somewhere else?" she said, taking a sip of her drink.

"I do, all the time. I could have become a famous engineer by now, but I guess life had different plans for me." you stated a bit too casually.

"A famous engineer?" she looked at you. "Dunno if I like the sound of that... You'd end up forgetting me if you were busy being famous."  she frowned.

"Aww, I could never forget you, Hana!" you smiled while ruffling her hair.

"Hey! I'm being serious, ya know! I used to imagine my life as a famous mech pilot a lot. And you know what? I haven't given up on that dream yet!" she growled.

"It's nice having dreams. It's the only legal thing us junkers have"  you remarked sarcastically, making the girl quite angry.

"You don't get what I'm saying." she stated while standing up, "I want to get away from this place and do something big! Like, I don't know, joining Overwatch and help people!"

You stood up too and soon you realized that Hana was being really passionate about this. You could catch a glimpse of her determination just by looking at her standing there.

"But I'm sure I'll screw something up if I go alone. That's why I want you to come with me, (y/n). We could even become famous together!"

"Do you... really think two junkers like us can make it big out there?" you asked, seriously concerned about the matter.

Hana held your hands. "I won't deny that it'll be hard in the beginning but... The world needs heroes, even if they come from a dumping ground like this."

"You're... not wrong. I've been complaining about this world for a long time and now that you're giving me a chance to do something for it, I just have to accept."

"(Y/n)!" she cried with teary eyes. "You're the best! I love you, you big geek!" she blurted out, hugging you tightly. When she realized what she had said, she immediately let you go and her cheeks tinted with a bright shade of red. "S-see you tomorrow, (y/n)." the pilot mumbled before putting on her round and bulky glasses and running away.

A grin slowly formed on your face. You were the happiest junker on Earth and yet there was something, one little thing, that still worried you.

"Hana... your mech is still here..." you whispered because the girl was already nowhere to be seen.
