Tick tock. Tick tock. Tick tock.
I love Mrs Quinn. And I love this class. English is one of my favourite classes. What I don't love though, are Mondays. Does anyone? All you see when you glance round the room are miserable students. Guys who were probably out late drinking last night. They all have sunglasses on, and their heads on the desk. Then the girls who were probably up late trying so desperately to get a text back from their boyfriends who were the ones out partying. They have sour faces and bags under their eyes. Then there's me. I don't go out that often, so I'm always in bed by ten. So really, I shouldn't miss out on sleep. But I do that thing where you toss and turn for 23 minutes and then convince yourself if you have a coffee in the morning you can stay up an extra hour. Then you reach over and grab your phone, in my case I grab a book. One hour turns into three and before you know it you're heavily regretting your choices while you start at the clock. And you slowly begin to hate your life and plan your "I'm dropping out" speech to give to your parents.
So no, I don't have a hangover. I don't even have a boyfriend to stress about. Just how many chapters I have left to read. Bane of my life.
Rrrrrrring.
That bell means two things. Cafeteria pizza. And that there are only two classes left before I can go home and do nothing.
I wait for everyone to leave the class before I get up out of my seat and follow, where I'm stopped abruptly at the door.
"Millie!" Jess and Casey are always excited for the cafeteria pizza, but something seemed different today. I mean, what is so important that they have to basically throw me up against the wall before I even have a chance to step into the hall.
Jess's blue eyes looked brighter and wider than usual. And Casey had already turned her head and was exchanging lustful looks with Bryan, her crush. He stood only a few steps down the hall at his locker. They annoy me. They've clearly had a thing for each other since the Summer Ball, but none of them have made the first move yet. I'm kind of getting sick of hearing how in love she is, yet they haven't even had a date. Do you think I'd get away with tying them together until they arrange one?
"You have to sign up for the skiing trip with me and Casey. I know it's not your thing but you gotta live a little, girl! They're only taking twenty so, I brought you an application form. Let's fill it out over some pizza, and you can hand it in to the head office before 5th period!"
Jess had never looked so excited before. But wait a minute... Skiing trip? No thanks.
"Jess, I appreciate the thought, but you're right. You know this isn't my thing. I barely leave my bed when we're not in school, never mind travel with you boy crazy girls to a different country."
I felt bad. The change in her facial expression told me she was about to go a little mad on me. Aaaand, I stood corrected.
"Millie! You know how to wind me up. Listen, this is gonna be the best thing ever. Isn't your mum always moaning at you to get out and live a little? Prove to her that you actually have a life outside of those books you read all the time. Please, Millie. I can't bare to listen to Casey bang on about Bryan for 10 days in France without you there. Please Please Please!"
France, huh? Just then my stomach rumbled. Pretty loudly too. Loud enough that Casey snapped out of her locked gaze with Bryan, and threw her head around. She looked down at my stomach, and back up at me with a cheeky smile.
"Someone's hungry. Why don't we go grab a bite to eat and you can have ten minutes to think about it?"
Sounds good to me. Good enough to put a smile on my face. The three of us turn and walk towards the cafeteria. Jess starts to list all the reasons why I should go on this trip, but I'm not really listening all that much. It's kind of like a static noise in the background. Casey is already stalking Bryan on instagram while she walks along side me, with the biggest grin on her face.
