Reaction to the 2017 Tonys

Lins face right there is my reaction.

I'm mad for two reasons, Natasha, Pierre and The Great Comet of 1812 was robbed and that there was mostly white people who won.

Sure Ben Platt is a good broadway star and that's fine but Denee (one of the few colored people that was nominated) was robbed by the racist Bette Midler. Hello Dolly wasn't even that good and nether was her acting and singing.

The awards the Great Comet won (set design and lighting) weren't surprising like it was a unique set and lighting. The award that the Great Comet didn't win that surprised me  the most was orchestrations.  If you listen to some of the electro opera songs like The Duel or The Opera, those songs were different than the winner (Dear Evan Hansen.) Don't get me wrong, I love Alex Lacamoires work especially in Hamilton but Dave Malloy had an (in his definition) "electro-pop opera" which is the first I have ever seen in musical history. 

In the off-broadway version of the Great Comet the theatre was a Russian club where you could see the whole thing happen. Instead of a the musical happening on the stage, the musical was in front of you like a cast member could sit next to you.

Also, do not come to me and say "Oh you haven't seen/heard Dear Evan Hansen so don't be mad." There are two things wrong with that sentence, ya' wanna know what's wrong. First of all, I have heard the soundtrack (first 7 songs a.k.a the majority I think) so no, I'm not being biased. Second of all, if Dear Evan Hansen lost and Great Comet won, the Dear Evan Hansen fans would most likely be mad because well... their fav lost. 

Another thing is how Dear Evan Hansen fans are saying how people "bashing" DEH have never had a mental illness. That's rude because I have anxiety and paranoia and I read this post on Instagram saying this which describes what I'm trying to get through, "okay ummm there are people who have dealt with mental illnesses who don't like deh very much????? saying people who are bashing it have never gone through that stuff is honestly rude to those people okay just bc someone has a mental illness  they aren't inclined to like deh"

THE LACK OF DIVERSITY!!!! 

I went to the 2017 Tony nomination website and counted that there were only 14 people of color that were nominated out of the rest of the nominations. Only 14! That's not a lot of POC which makes me sad because the only broadway show I know that has TONS of diversity was Hamilton (That's all I know but feel free to comment musicals that have tons of diversity.) That night the 2017 Tony's aired, it felt like white people only exist.
