~ June 2004 ~
" Again, Daddy! Again! "
A girl no more than five years old squeals as her father pushes her on the swing in the backyard.
" Alright, one more time, kiddo. Then I gotta leave, okay? "
The little girl gives her daddy a sad, solemn look and slowly nods her head.
After a few more pushes, the man gently grabs the sides of the swings to slow the girl down. Once the swing is stopped, he kneels in front of her, both hands still on the swing." You know the drill, Addie. I gotta go now, but I'll see you soon. "
The young girls head dropped, trying so desperately to hide the tears stinging behind her bright green eyes.
" Hey, you know I'm coming back. "
The man placed his finger under her chin, gently forcing her to look up at him. He brushed away a tear that had managed to escape.
" Promise? " although the way she said it, sounded like 'pwomise?'
The man smiled at that, he had to admit, he was going to miss that little voice. This wasn't the first time he had left, but this time was different.
" Promise. " He said, lying through his teeth.
" I'm gonna miss you so much, daddy. " The girls eyes glistening over with tears.
" I'm gonna miss you too, sweetheart. Hey, come here. "
He opened his arms for a hug. She jumped off the swing and landed in her fathers arms. She didn't want to let go, but after a few moments, her father carefully removed her little hands and kissed her cheek.
" I love you, Addie. "
" I love you too, daddy. "
They embraced one last time, before he headed to his black '67 Chevy Impala. There, the girls mother, Jennifer, talked briefly with him. They hugged and he seemed to whisper something in her ear, before he went around to the drivers side of the impala and hopped in. The engine roared to life and it seemed in the blink of an eye, he was gone. The girl glanced in her mothers direction, and she could see tears in her eyes. She jumped from her seat on the swing and ran into her mothers arms.
As she cried into her mothers arms, she didn't realize that she as well, was crying. Not just for the fact he left, but that he was leaving for good. But there was a good reason for his leaving and for lying to the girl , to keep his family safe. This man hunted things that most parents would tell their children, were just nightmares. The mans name, is Dean Winchester. His daughter, Adelaide Stevie Winchester. And this is the start of her story.
