Jack's POV-

I was playing one on one basketball with JJ (Jack J) when I saw the Highsmith's SUV pull into their driveway. I didn't pay any attention until I saw a blond haired girl with long legs and piercing blue eyes climb out of the car. I knew immediately she wasn't from around here.

"Who's that?" I asked, chest pacing Jack the ball.

"How should I know?" he replied, making the basket for the 3 point line.

I turned around to see her walking inside with Mrs. Highsmith. "She's a cutie" I thought out loud. JJ just shook his head and walked inside.

"I got to go home" he stated, picking up his bookbag and a half empty waterbottle.

"See you tomorrow" I called as he walked out the front door.

I trudged into the kitchen looking for something to munch on, when I saw a fresh batch of cookies on my moms favorite fine china plate. As I was reaching for one of the warm delights, my mom smacked my hand.

:Those are not for you" she stated, eyeballing me. I sighed and rolled my eyes.

"Mr. and Mrs. Highsmith's granddaughters are moving in with them today" she said, washing the dirty dishes in the sink. "The oldest, Kassidy, is around your age. And the youngest is Amber and she's 8." she continued.

I nodded and took a bite of my half eaten apple.

"Now go clean up. You have cookies to deliver." she demanded.

I tossed the remains of my snack and trekked upstairs to my bathroom. After a nice, hot shower, I put on my clean red and black basketball shorts and red MAGCON hoodie. I slide down the banister and into the kitchen.

"I'm ready" I stated, pulling on my Nikes.

"Go make an impression" my mom winked, handing me the now room temperature cookies.

I started my way out of the house and across the street. As I walked up to their front door I pushed the doorbell twice, waiting for an answer.

"I'll get it!" I heard a voice shout and the door flew open.

All of a sudden I was face to face with a blue eyed creature.

"Hi" I breathed, awestruck of her beauty.

Her eyes were prettier up close and her hair was in a perfectly pulled back ponytail.

She blushed and looked to the ground. "Hey. I'm Kassidy, but you can call me Kat" she said, looking back up with a smile.

"Jack. My names Jack." I stuttered. "These are for you" I said, pushing the plate into her personal space.

"Thank you. You want to come in?" she asked, opening the door wider.

I thought for a minute and answered. "Sure"

"Well look who it is!" Mr. Highsmith exclaimed just as I walked through the door. "How's basketball?" he asked with a wide grin on his face.

"Great!" I answered. "Tryouts are Monday."

I followed Kat into the newly remodeled kitchen where she placed the cookies on the island.

"That's really nice of you to bring these" she said, putting one in her mouth.

I smiled and nodded. "Yeah, thank my mom. She made them." I reached for a double chocolate chip cookie.

She giggled this adorable laugh and responded. "I'll make sure I do!"

For the next 20 minutes we chatted about school, music and her friends back home in Atlanta. She never did tell me why she moved out her. But I did find out we had a ton in common.

"So Jack, my Kassidy is going to be your new schoolmate" Mr. Highsmith stated, interrupting Kat and I's conversation.

"Yeah, I heard." I responded, standing up to push my chair in, "Well, it's time for me to head home. I have math homework." I say walking to the door.

"Thanks again!" Kat called from the kitchen.

Mr. Highsmith opened the door and whispered "Promise me you'll keep an eye on my baby, Jack. She's been through a lot lately"

"I promise Mr. Highsmith." I say with a genuine smile.

"Good luck Monday!" he called as I made my way down the cobblestone driveway.

"Wow" I thought to myself. "She's more beautiful in person"
