I sit on my bed, my window open with the warm Breeze flowing over me. I never expected it to happen to me, of all the people in the world, it happened to me. These type of things just don't happen to girls like me.

I get up and continue to pack my things, feeling numb all the while. I only have a few minutes, so I only pack a few things into my light blue backpack. Three pairs of clothes, my phone charger, laptop, hair brush, make up, toothbrush. Nothing much... But I of course could never forget my teddy bear, Clouds. I know, I'm 16 and I have a teddy bear, stupid right?

I sling my backpack over my shoulder, slipping on my black hoodie. I pick up Candy, my puppy. She is a German Shepard, and will get a lot bigger very soon. I sigh, leaving my house, the only house I have ever known.

I get into the social workers car, the one that brought me here to get my stuff.

"You holding up okay?" she asks me, a smile plastered across her face.

I act like I didn't hear her, because that is one of the stupidest questions that everyone seems to love asking me. I get into the back seat, because the woman has her stuff in the front one. I set Candy down, and she gets on my lap, putting her front paws on the door so she could see out the window.

I stick earbuds in my ears, not eager to make a conversation. I stare out the window, as I watch my house get farther into the distance. This may be the last time I ever see home again, and I sit here helpless, as if all my energy was left at the house.

I close my eyes, pretending this isn't happening. I force myself not to think about how this is unfair, because every time I do, I feel tears spring to my eyes, and I will not allow myself to cry. I always do that to myself, forcing myself to be strong, when all I want to do is curl up in a ball and cry.

I let sleep take me away from reality, let it take away my pain, even if it won't last forever.

I wake up to someone tapping me on my leg. My eyes dart open, my brain trying to take in everything at once, my surroundings, who's tapping me, and where Candy is. I'm in the car, it's dark and we are parked outside of an unfamiliar house. The woman is tapping me. And Candy is...oh my god where's candy?

I suddenly get the sensation of something really warm on my legs. I look down to see Candy curled up, asleep. She absolutely makes my heart melt. I pet her, looking up at the lady.

"We are here!" She says excitedly.

I roll my eyes, but I make sure she doesn't see. I pick up Candy and get out of the car. We go up to the door and ring the doorbell. A lady answers the door, she smiles at me and says, "Welcome to your foster home! My name is Mrs. Smith, and what is your name young lady?"

"Summer," I say quietly, wanting nothing more than to go back home.
