It was a long day, and for the first time in a while, Sonic felt genuinely tired. "Fighting Eggman all day... he really gave me a run for my money." Sonic sighed as he knocked on his best friends door. "I'm too tired to go to my place, maybe Tails will let me stay here?"
Of course, Tails was a little skeptical at first, but he agreed. "Only one night, Sonic, deal?" He asked him seriously. "Deal." He yawned and strolled inside. Immediately Sonic jumped on Tails' couch. "Wanna hang before bed?" He offered Tails a controller.
"Sure thing, sounds fun!" Tails smiled and took a controller. After almost an hour of playing, Sonic was finally exhausted. Tails knew this, because when he actually beat Sonic in a game, he was asleep. He hadn't even been playing.
Tails sighed and nudged his brother. "Sonic, wake up. You've gotta get to an actual bed."
Sonic mumbled awake, and with help from Tails, managed to get in a bed. "Night, buddy," Sonic waved and flopped down on Tails' extra bed. "Night, Sonic, sleep well." Tails responded with a tired yawn.
Sonic's Nightmare
The first thing Sonic heard when his dream began was laughing. He was enjoying a nice cold beverage with his friends at Meh Burger. The day was bright and everyone was happily enjoying the weather.
Amy sat across from him, she had her legs crossed and her head resting in her palm. She had her eyes down, staring down at the pages of a book. Knuckles and Sticks were throwing straw wrappers at each other beside him, while Sticks was spouting off another conspiracy.
His eyes remained on Amy. Her quills gentle dangled from her face, covering up one of her eyes as the wind blew. He found himself wanting to speak, but his mouth wouldn't work, and no sound came out.
Lucky for him, a certain not-so-jolly fat man attacked at that instant. The fight was quick, so quick that none of the team even got a hit in, it was all Sonic.
"What?" Sonic asked, turning to his friends, he only saw their upset and disappointed faces. He looked at Tails then to Amy, she seemed more upset than anyone.
The rest of the day went by in a blur, but somehow Sonic ended up at Amy's near the end of the day. He didn't know what was happening. A second ago, they were talking and Sonic was apologizing, the next he was in an argument, yelling his head off with Amy.
"I didn't do anything wrong!" Sonic shouted at her. "I defeated Eggman on my own, so what?"
"So what? So you acted on your own again! We're a team, Sonic! You treat all of us, especially me differently!"
"How so?" Sonic furrowed his brows, confused at her complaint.
"During practice you always go easy on me, and then when I'm about to win, you either give some lame excuse to why you can't continue or you completely defeat me. You give me hope that I might beat you, but then you just throw my hope away! Do you know how much that hurts?"
"I just don't wanna-"
"-and I know it's not because I'm a girl, because you go all out with Sticks!"
"She could actually kill me!"
"So could I, Sonic!" Amy summoned her hammer as tears streamed down her face.
