A week has passed through and Gisele finally had to find a job. Not the job she expected, but working at a coffee shouldn't be that bad. Unfortunately, she got sick after two days of work. That wasn't for sure the image she wanted to pass to the new mean boss. But what would Gisele do? She used to be so weak during her childhood due her weight that she had to take vitamins every year. She thought she would be better by now, as an adult, but it seams like the old always comes back somehow.
Her mom, as soon as she knew the poor daughter was sick, ran to Gisele's house so she could help her out and do her tasty famous chicken soup (who's mother doesn't do when their childs beg with pain?). However Mrs. Parker never thought she would found her daughter in such filthy house. We know moms, and Gisele's mom after grumble some bad words, she cleaned the small apartment Gisele was in, and told her daughter how she should never switch the house she grow up in for that horrible little space. "She wasn't ready." Mrs. Parker thought. Even if her daughter has already almost thirty, Gisele's will be always her little girl.
At least she found a job. Or unemployed would be impossible to Gisele live. Her parents offered everything so she wouldn't leave their shared house, but Gisele wanted to be free and finally taking her decisons and doing her own things without having anyone behind her to do for her.
Hopefully, her parents won't find what she's doing in her new job. They've always wanted her to be a bussiness woman, and Gisele really loved that idea since ever, because was what she would see every day in her parents. But, when she finished her studies, she realized that also writing was something she always thought of.
So she did it. She risked everything for her first book. Even if eventually end up a failure, at least she tried.
"Gisele, you have to eat." Her mom's says. "It will make you feel better." She continues. Gisele really loves her mom but sometimes it's so annoying treating her like a baby when she's on her thirty's.
"Mom, I can take care of myself. I'm fine. It's just a cold." She rambles.
"You can? Because this house is disgusting and that thing over there..." Mrs. Parker points out to the box of cigarettes. "It's going to kill you, Gisele Parker!" She tells in an authoritative voice.
Gisele didn't reply. She was right, though. But right now all she could think was how her mother's voice wasn't helping to her headache. Would she ever be full independent? Her parents were always so protective, she knew it. But, some point at life that we know we have to leave a bit of that back in the past.
As soon as Mrs. Parker left the house, Gisele ran through the balcony for a cigarette. The nights are cold, but not that cold to get sick at the first gust of wind like she did. She had no new email and that made her feel down. She was working in something she believed in, people say that we must wait to get good things but will ever Gisele make it?
All the thoughts went through her mind that moment. She liked to reflect about life, planning the possible next steps as to survive without her parents, as to do what she always thought of. Defining goals and somehow fight for them the best she could.
She was lucky for having that life. But will always be this easy? And now with no parents to support her back when she needs. Her parents will always be present, the apartment is not that far from her original home. But it's a difference living by herself.
The phone bips when Gisele is about to light up the second cigarette. At first, her heart jumped has it is been jumping every time she gets a new notification thinking it is some feedback about her book. But this time Gisele didn't run thinking it would be another message from her ex-boyfriend Miles or just her mother. Perhaps, she should had run.
When she picks up the phone, is an email tittled "Book review". For moments, everything stopped, even her breath. She slides to read:
"Dear Mrs. Parker,
We're surely happy to scheadule a meeting with you to talk about several aspects.
Please, make sure monday 12th is okay for you. We'll meet you in the morning, around 10am.
The meeting will be realized at our main office in Portland.
Best regards,
Evan Walker."
If luck was by Gisele's side, that could actually mean something. That also could mean nothing more than just an interest to not reject that book as soon as they got it.
After some long sighs, Gisele decided that she had to go. How is she going to explain the new boss? She doesn't even know what could be the best excuse. She is being home for the past three days after working only the two first days. But all she knows is that she has to go to that meeting in Portland to give to herself one last chance of believing that she actually can do it.
The first book, Miles once said, never gets published or if it does, never sells.
Maybe he is right. But we never should give up, right? Gisele answered back that time.
Miles was a good friend even though their relationship was ruined, they kept their friendship. Maybe they should kept that way instead of trying something more, because Gisele knew, deep down in the heart that Miles was meant to be a great friend in her life right before things started getting more intense. But also, she only accepted it when things were already rolling between them.
Relationships were never something Gisele usually gives her best to. It's okay to not like anyone. It's okay to take some time to focus on work, on a career and that was what Gisele decided to do for now, at least. Or she thought so...
