Chapter VIII
Catalina
We were in position for tonight's "battle". I stood next to Irena, as we awaited Reyna's signal. She rode Skipio, her pegasus, and motioned her hand to the ground. The games have begun.
Battle cries rang out. Arrows flew in every which way. Even bombs flew from the makeshift castle, I think it was. All Dakota told us is that there is a banner inside the fort. The first Cohort to get it, its team wins. Fairly simple, when you could possibly die!
We, meaning me, Irena, and this other guy, followed Gwen as our group distracted the guard. As we entered the fort, our weapons were drawn, but no one attacked. Our eyes were in every direction, so a surprise attack was limited. But of course, that one direction we didn't look came three soldiers. They yelled and we attacked. After a while, it seemed that they wouldn't fall. Actaully, more and more came coming. I heard a familiar scream. Irena!
I turned around, and saw her on her knees, holding her leg. As soon as I saw her wound I ran infront of her to fight of the attackers. She wobbled up and grasped my arm. I backed us up and helped her up the stairs. Once we were in a secluded area, I questioned her.
"Irena? What happened?"
"T-They came s-so quick. I didn't n-notice one of them..."
I tore off my jacket and wrapped her leg. I helped her up, and we began to search the fort for the banner. We found a small room towards the back and went in but soon right back out. The banner was in there, but so were four guards.
"I can't take them all."
"I'm coming with you."
"No, you're not. I'll go get the others. Stay here, k?" She hesitated, but nodded, and walked back to the attack sight. I saw Gwen, the kid, and two others.
"Guys, I know where the banner is. There are guards." They all nodded, and I lead them to the room. Yet when we got there, Irena wasn't. I ran in the room, and found three guards on the floor. Irena stood, or leaned on one leg, infront of a tall, buff guy, spatha at his neck. He just stood there, like us, still overcoming shock. Suddenly, he swung his sword, I guess, straight at her spatha. She turned on his back, and elbowed his shoulder area. He moved quick and she missed. He swung his sword to her already injured leg. That's when I stepped in.
Quickly, I knocked his sword out of his hand with my bow, and drew an arrow. Lucky for him, he wore armor, and I got him in the arm. I kicked his gut and he fell to the ground. Irena glanced at me and we both nodded in sync. We grabbed the banner, and behind us we heard cheers. Gwen, and those other guys lifted us up and carried us out of the fort. Over all the cheering, I managed to ask Irena something.
"Why didn't you just knock that kid out?" She hesitated.
"Becuase............because, I know him."
