"Charlotte" I pushed. "Okay fine. It was a guy, he slashed me and I was afraid to tell you. Let's be done with this" she groaned. A guy? "What guy?" I asked. I was furious at whoever had done this to her. "A boy from my school. He wanted me dead" she replied on the verge of tears. "What's his name?" I asked. "Ryan" she replied. "Oh heck no. Harvey did you hear that?" I asked. "Yeah babe I heard it. Where can I find this Ryan boy" he asked Charlotte. "Dad please don't" she begged him. "Kiddo, it's my job to protect you and I've failed miserably" he sighed.

It has now been 12 years since Charlotte was in the hospital. Eleanor and Olivia are 14 and Charlotte is 29! Time sure is flying by. I'm getting old... way too old. My kids are my priority and my job comes in second on the list. "Harvey did you ever want a boy?" I asked. "Well sure it would have been nice but I'm okay with any gender" he laughed. "And that's why I love you" I smiled.
---------------
Days passed and nothing special happened and years passed too. I'm 81 years old as of yesterday... it's absolutely crazy.

Charlotte's POV:
As I sat on my couch, cuddling with my kids Elena, Lillian, and Oliver I heard my phone ringing from the kitchen. "Austin, can you sit with the kids while I answer the phone?" I asked. "Of course honey" he replied. Goodness I'm glad I have this man in my life. I picked up my phone and pressed 'answer'
Mom: "honey I have something to tell you"
Me: "okay go ahead"
Mom: "your father is in the hospital, he's hanging on Charlotte"
Me: "I'll be right there hold on"
With that being said, I ended the call and ran to the living room. "Okay kids, time to go" I smiled. "Where are we going?" Elena asked. "We're going to go visit grandpa" I said. I was trying to make it seem like everything was okay. Austin looked at me and widened his eyes, I nodded in return. "Come on kiddos let's get in the car, quickly please" I said. Once everyone was in the car, I rushed to the hospital.

Doves POV:
I sat in a chair next to Harvey's hospital bed. The man I love is slowly dying. "Eleanor, could you get me a cup of water?" I asked. She nodded and walked out. Olivia and Eleanor were the first ones here and now I'm waiting on Charlotte. When she finally walked in the door I could tell that she was stressed and had been crying. She came over and hugged Harvey and then hugged me. "Hi Charlotte" I sighed. "Hi mom" she choked back. I wanted nothing more than to sit down with her and hug her for the rest of the evening. I wanted Harvey to be okay.. I wanted to be young again. I thought of the day that Harvey asked me out.. I walked into school not knowing what was in for me. "So if the square root of 64 is 8, what is the probability that you'd go out with me?"
Those words kept replaying in my head. That's how he asked me out. What a goofball. "Dove" he whispered to me. "Yes Harvey, I'm here" I replied, grabbing his hand. "I love you and all of the kids" he sighed. "We love you so much Harvey" I cried. Just then, he let go of my hand and the little line on his monitor went flat. I urged Charlotte Olivia and Eleanor to get the children out of the room. Once they had, some doctors rushed in and pulled me out of the room. This is it.. the moment I had dreaded my entire life. I'd known Harvey, of course, since I was just a mere bean. We grew up together and now he's left me.
-----------------
I went to sleep that night thinking about Harvey. Everything we'd ever done together all added up to today. He was perfectly healthy but time is a cruel mistress. As I fell asleep, I wondered when mother nature would finally take me too. Little did I know.. I'd never wake up the next morning.
