Inside the tent was a rich, dark green color. a large stone table stood in the middle of the room, empty. At the end of the table was a cold stone chair, also empty. Gavin and I exchanged looks of confusion."I thought you said there would be food here." He whispered; stomach growling.
"Oh don't worry," said a voice, "you will soon eat." We looked up to see a woman sitting in the, once empty, chair. She had a soft face with olive skin and silver eyes that seemed to slice through you, Her black silky hair flowed over her shoulders gracefully.
There was no doubt in my mind that this was the 'Boss' the others were talking about, everything about her gleamed with leader ship.
I stood there, awestruck. The woman noticed and smiled. "I am called Erato, part of the Luindean counsel." I heard Gavin gasp before falling to one knee. Erato laughed, "no need for that." she gestured to the table. "Sit."
Gavin rose and scuttled to a chair at the end of the table, I gave the woman a skeptical look before joining him.
"I apologize for the hospitality of my guards. Rest assured the remainder of the journey will be different." My eyes looked up to a guard standing in the middle of the room, he looked around nervously.
Men brought in plates heaped with food. My mouth watered as the placed them in front of us. I tried to reach for a roll but Gavin slapped my hand away. "Wait." He whispered.
I turned my head toward Erato. "Oh please, eat." She said.
I immediately dug in, grabbing roasted weed-digger, mashed square root, and my favorite: Malonaut soup. Malonaut is a small animal like plant, their distinct leaves stick up from the ground making it easy to spot if you knew what to look for. But They are pretty rare now days and expencive to buy
My eyes closed as I imagined my mom cooking the soup while my dad and I played papousa. "It's it ready yet mommy?" 6 year old me asked. "Yup," mom said setting three wooden bowls on the table, "Come eat!" I laughed as my dad picked me up and set me in a seat.
"Thalia is it?" A voice interrupted.
"What?" I said, opening my eyes as the sound of laughter faded away. "Oh, um, yes that is correct."
"And where are you from?" Erato asked.
"Juket," I said, "Gavin is too."
"Both from the same place?"
I could feel Gavin trembling and I instinctively grabbed his hand. "Yes."
Before Erato could say anything more, a soldier walked in holding a few blankets. "We're ready to depart." He said stiffly.
Erato turned toward us. "I'm afraid this is where I must leave you," she said, "the counsel is working on a new...project."
the way she said "project made chills run down my back, I was happy to get away from her.
We walked outside and before we knew it the tent, along with Erato was gone.
The soldier led us to a carriage. It was only big enough to fit about 2 people, the body was made of ebony wood and had velvet curtains covering the windows. "What happened to the wagon?" I asked.
"Gone, along with those mountain men."
I froze as I remembered that I had left my book under one of the blankets.
The man turned to me "Oh, and I found this," He pulled my book from his bag and held it out to me, "is it yours?""Yes," I said, relief flooding my senses, "Thank you." I spun on my heels toward the carrage but quickly turned around. "I'm Thalia by the way." I stuck out my pinky, he looked down then back at me. "Is that how you Jukets introduce yourselves?" I felt my face grow hot "no sorry that was a accident." He laughed, "That's alright, here." He paused to take off his helm. "I'm Naris." I looked up to see a boy about my age, maybe a year or two older, with a mop of curly blonde hair and electric blue eyes. "Nice to meet you." He finished. He held out his pinky and smiled sharply, I rose my eyebrow before taking it.
I climed into the carrage were Gavin was waiting careful not to let him see the small smile that had begun to form on my lips.Hey guys! Thank you so much for reading and voting! I know it's been awhile since I last updated. I've been trying to keep up in school. Also, this year for 8th grade I decided to take a creative writing class. Due to that I will be updating more often, and I will be using what I learned in class to make my stories better. And if you don't mind but I've changed the storyline a bit to make it more interesting. I also have a couple of short stories that I will post soon. And I also have a new story coming up!😊
