" I mean seriously? Aren't they supposed to look just like us the majority of the time? All I could think to put down is maybe they are a bit pale or something, maybe they don't fancy sunlight since the moon is more their cup a tea, and probably extra hairy - but really no one told us what they look like, i didn't know they'd put that in exams, Professor didn't really prepare us enough don't you think? And isn't that the whole point of werewolves, when they aren't in their beastie forms they look just the same as -""You prat they were asking about how to tell the difference between werewolves in there WOLF form, and just regular wolves!"
"Merlin Georgie are you telling me that's what you've been going on about this whole time-"
The black-haired Georgie looked blank for a moment, then realization and frustration flooded her almond eyes.
"Shit! That's what they were asking?? For fu- Ah man- I spent about half the exam on that one too ..."
All the girls laughed as they walked into the sunlit entrance hall towards the grounds and away from their Ordinary Wizarding Level exams, where they had just spent the good part of their morning, pouring over papers that would decide where the rest of their Hogwarts careers would take them.
Roxanne side hugged her bewildered friend, feeling a bit bad for calling her a prat, but also knowing that Georgie wouldn't be too torn up if she didn't receive an O.W.L. in Defense Against the Dark Arts.
The group and a few other stragglers were the only exam takers that had not yet left the castle walls, and as they made their way through the entrance hall and out onto the sunny grounds a figure dashed up the front steps and past the laughing girls.
Roxanne recognized Lily Evans by her red hair, but instead of looking like her usual kind-faced self Lily seemed quite upset. Tears were about the spill from her green eyes and her balled up fists were trembling. Although Roxanne didn't know the girl very well she felt the urge to stop her and ask what was wrong, and she would have, had Lily not also simultaneously looked as though the next person to affront her would suffer her wrath. And Roxanne knew she wouldn't like to be on the wrong end of that wand.
"What do you think happened to her?"
"Dunno, you'd think she'd be right cheerful considering we all know she just aced the exam."
The girls had stopped, standing on the front steps and looking back towards Lily, who had just run up the large marble staircase.
Florence began to walk towards the grounds again and her friends followed, and soon they were back to their jovial chattering.
"But really," Georgie started "why'd they put a question like that for DADA? Wouldn't that fall more under a Care of Magical Creatures test?"
Florence laughed, saying "Well I don't know about you Georgie, but I wouldn't fancy trying to Care for a werewolf."
"Plus if you ever had the misfortune of meeting one during the full moon, you'd probably want to know a good jinx or two that'd work against it."
"Ugh one more exam and we're free! Free to do what we like!"
"Or whom we'd like" Roxanne smirked, pulling her blonde hair into a ponytail.
"I beg your pardon," said Florence, seemingly appalled. "I happen to be in a very committed relationship."
"Never stopped you before!" Roxanne chided and Georgette laughed along with her.
Florence seemed to be trying to hold back a bit of a grin, and as the trio neared the Lake thats banks seemed to be occupied with the entire fifth year class, she added, "And I don't recall the threat of OWLS ever stopping you from doing whoever you like!"
All three burst into laughter, but received only a few glances in their direction, as there seemed to be some other ruckus capturing the students attention.
As the girls sobered up they saw three boys standing near the shade of a beach tree, and another one suspended in midair.
"What the-" started Roxanne.
The boy, who Roxanne knew to be Severus Snape, dropped to the ground and immediately started to search around for his wand.
"Here ya go Snivellus, maybe this one'll teach you to mind your tongue- Engorgio!" And a jet of ice blue hit Snape right as he was opening his mouth, probably to curse his attacker.
Talk about bad timing, thought Roxanne as a protuberant pink blob began to swell from Snape's mouth.
The three boys started laughing, and Roxanne thought it was a bit ironic that these so-called lions sounded to her like a pack of hyenas.
She recognized James Potter as Snape's attacker, and his pathetic henchmen, Sirius Black and Peter Pettigrew, were laughing beside him. Roxanne noticed the fourth member of their little gang, Remus Lupin, sitting beneath the beach tree, looking a bit ashamed.
Figures, Roxanne thought, the Courageous Gryffindor can't even stand up to his friends.
"Oi, what're you doing?" Sirius Black barked.
Georgette was striding towards Snape, who was obviously beginning to have trouble breathing with his inflated tongue.
"Reducto!" She muttered, and immediately Snape's tongue deflated down to it's normal size. "You alright mate?"
While Roxanne wouldn't quite say she was friends with Snape, Georgie had been his partner in potions for the past year, and she was always raving about how much he helped her out with the subject.
Snape nodded, still catching his breathe and Georgie looked back and glared at Potter.
Roxanne looked down and realized she had absent-mindedly grabbed her wand, and looked over to see that Florence had done the same.
"Well that was real brave of you Potter, three against one!" Roxanne exclaimed smirking, her eyes viciously narrowed. She had grown to dislike the group, especially Black, and was hoping for an excuse to use some of the especially nasty spells she had recently been taught.
"Oh, but I forgot- that one's a bit of a squib isn't he?" She nodded toward Pettigrew, who looked as though he might soil himself any second. "But still, two against one isn't exactly what I'd call courageous.."
"Sod off, Malfoy," Black snarled.
"Let's leave your bedroom fantasies out of this, shall we?" She replied smiling, and flipped her platinum locks over one shoulder.
There was a bit of an "OOOHHH" from the surrounding crowd and some giggles that made Roxanne's smile turn even more wicked.
Snape raised his wand and Potter quickly said "I wouldn't do that if I were you Snivellous," but his face looked as though he would welcome any excuse to jinx Snape again, although Roxanne doubted that he really needed one.
Before Snape could reply, Roxanne quipped "He's right Severus, you wouldn't want to waste your magic on these filthy blood traitors."
"Roxanne," Lupin had finally gotten up and was at his friends' sides, "There's no need for that.."
"Stay out of it, halfbreed." It was the first insult that had popped up into her mind, but Roxanne was pleased to see that she had hit a nerve.
The four boys were really glaring at her now, and suddenly Black strode up until he and his wand were inches from Roxanne's face and said, menacingly "What did you just say, Snake?"
"Was that supposed to be an insult?" Roxanne rasped.
Before Black could utter the words he had been longing to since he had first started school with her, Roxanne's incredibly bony knuckles collided with the Gryffindor's perfectly sculpted face and he was knocked to the ground, both from surprise and from the sheer animalistic, rage-filled force of the blow.
