Prologue

"Don't go," I sobbed, not even bothering to hide my tears. I held on to his hand tighter. He took another step away, but didn't pull his hand. His eyes were sad, too.

"I'll be back someday Anna." He looked at me solemnly. "I promise." I swallowed and nodded. He gently removed his hand from my iron grip as the wind picked up, whipping my hair around my face. Our eyes met and held for moment. "I promise."

Just like that, he was gone. My heart, my life, gone. I watched silently as the plane lifted off into the air like a bird being set free. My head bowed and and I cried and cried.
