"Just tell us what happened Miss Jones and we can protect you." The detective said in a calm tone as he sets a glass of water in front of me. I glance up at him slightly and look back towards my bruised hands that are resting on the cold metal table. "At least tell me what happened to your face." He says referring to my bruised right eye and busted lip.
I stay silent with a blank look on my face. "I can't help you if you don't help me!" He yells, slamming his hands down on the table. I turn my attention to him and look up at him with a cold stare. "What are my charges?" I ask in a quiet hard tone. He looks at me as if he's trying to think of something to say. After a minute I nod.
"You have to let me go in 72 hours if you don't charge me with anything." I look back down at my hands, turning my attention to the handcuffs, connected to my right wrist, attaching me to the metal table. After a few minutes, he walks out, slamming the door behind him. I flinch as it catches me by surprise.
"Adrian!" My boyfriend yells from behind me. It's the first day of school, I'm happy to be back. This is my last year, It's supposed to be my Junior year but I worked my ass off and now I'm graduating early. I get to escape from this hell a year early. Not the school, not the town, the neighborhood.
I turn to face the beautifully sculpted chocolate man walking towards me. This man was my boyfriend, best friend, and, well, my everything. "Well hi." I smile up at him as he leans down and kisses me softly. He pulls away and wraps his arms around me. "Damn I missed you." He smiles, kissing my forehead.
"You shouldn't have been gone for a month then." I say jokingly as I raise an eyebrow. His demeanor changes and he roughly pulls me to the unisex bathroom. He closes and locks the door behind us. "Jaden, baby, calm down I was only joking." I say softly.
"You know better than to say shit like that! Just because I was gone don't mean you can drop ya home training!" He yells, getting in my face. I close my eyes, getting ready for the impact of a slap. "Open ya fuckin' eyes, you know I ain't gonna hit ya, not here!" He growls as he walks back to the door, unlocking it and leaving.
I close the door behind him and lock it again. "10 months Adrian, 10 months..." I say softly. The neighborhood I grew up in is the worst in the city. 30 blocks of pure chaos. Everyone knows everyone, it has its own little crime ring, which Jaden's dad runs. Therefore, I can't leave Jaden, and it's bad because I've actually grown to love the guy who abuses me on the daily. He'll hit me for simply smacking my lips when he tells me something or for even looking at him 'wrong'.
I call him my everything for good reason. My mom is a prostitute, drug dealer, thief. She's in jail right now, has been for the past 6 years. She worked for Jaden's dad, everyone knows him as Bullet. So, when he found out my mom caught a charge again and didn't want to bail her out, he took me in. So I owe everything I have to Jaden and his father. Jaden and I have our own place, he's been out of town on business for the past month so today was the first day I've seen him. I know I'm getting my ass beat when we get home, there's no way around it. Suddenly there's a knock on the door. "Adrian!" I hear repeatedly.
"Miss Jones!" The detective yells, causing me to snap out of my thoughts. I look up at him and he sighs. "I want to encourage you to talk, it will help you in the future..."
