Lexi put one more pair of jeans into her suitcase, and zipped it shut. She met her mother and her sister at the front door of their apartment in New York City so that they could leave, and never return. Why will they never return? While, here's the story:
Yesterday, Lexi, her mother, Kassie, and her sister, Brooke, were sitting in a Starbucks store on Fifth Avenue. All of the sudden, a suspicious looking man came in, holding scissors. Brooke noticed him, and whispered, "Look, at him, I think he's up to something," to her mom and Lexi. Kassie and Lexi rolled their eyes as they kept drinking their lattes. Brooke stared at him, and saw him cut the cables of the security camera. Brooke, stupidly, yelled across the cafe, "He's cutting the cables to the security camera!" And repeated it several times. He bolted out of the store, but the police caught him. Apparently, he was on the FBI's Most Wanted list, and was a huge threat. Therefore, the government demanded that Brooke, Lexi, and their mother join the Witness Protection Program.
One day later, the family was being evicted from their home. A woman took them to a secret underground facility, and took their bags. "You can not keep any of your personal belongings. It could reveal your true identity." They walked into a place that looked like a beauty salon, and the woman instructed, "Sit in a chair." They sat down, and three stylists assisted each of them.
In less than two hours, Lexi's brunette hair was now bleached blonde with pink dip-dyed tips, and she had a ridiculous spray tan. They had chopped off Brooke's beautiful, blonde, long locks and replaced them with a black bob, and spray tanned her skin vampire-white. Kassie now had red hair, and they gave her some fake freckles. Lexi was glad, because she felt she got the best makeover. The Witness Protection Program gave them all new wardrobes, then the woman from earlier told them to follow her.
"May I ask where we're going?" Lexi asked her.
"Just wait. I'll explain everything
on the plane."
"The plane?!?!" The family said in unison. Asking no more questions, they followed her onto the plane.
"Oh, by the way, I'm Gia." The woman blurted out.
They all sat down and buckled their seatbelts. This wasn't a normal plane. They were sitting at a leather booth, Lexi and Brooke on one side, and Gia and Kassie on the other.
"So, you said you were going to explain everything?" Brooke broke the silence.
"Well, you're all aware of the status of the man who you... ran into, at Starbucks?"
They all nodded their heads.
"Well, since he is a criminal wanted by the FBI, we are worried about your safety." Gia started, "The government and we, the Witness Protection Program, will pay for everything you might want or need for the rest of your lives."
"Cool! Brooke interrupted.
"Umm Hmm..." Gia replied, "But there is one catch. We are moving you to London, England. You must have a new identity, and never let anyone know that you're really the Ricardo Family." She winked.
"Wait, we're moving to England? But what about my job? And my girl's school?" Kassie became worried.
"Don't worry, since the U.S government and the Witness Protection Program have written you a check for ten million dollars, you won't have to work another day in your life! And the girls will continue school in London."
"Ten million dollars?!?!" Lexi freaked out.
"Yep, you'll be rich! Now, it's a fourteen hour plane ride, but you'll need to study these packets I give you. They tell you your new identity, and what your 'life' has been like. So hit the books!"
Everyone left the booth and sat on separate couches. Lexi looked at the title page of her packet. It said, "Name: Elizabeth Anne McAdams." After two hours of reading the packet, she finds out that she has to love grooming herself and fashion. She is boy crazy, (totally opposite of her real self) and wants to be popular, (again, totally opposites). Brooke's new name is Bridget, and Kassie's new name is Rhonda. "I hate the new me," Lexi mumbled.
Finally, the plane landed in London, and Gia woke up the "McAdams" family. They got into a taxi, with their new luggage, which was holding their new belongings.
A few minutes later, Brooke asked, "Wait, where are we even going?"
"You're new home. It is in the richest neighborhood in London! It is also the biggest mansion in the neighborhood!" Gia answered.
As much as Lexi, (or Elizabeth, as she should call herself,) had wanted to live in a mansion, she didn't believe it would be in London.
"Oh! And it has full maid and butler service! But ladies, please start using a British accent! Remember, you are from East England." Gia reminded them.
"By the way," Lexi began, "I hate the name Elizabeth. would it be okay if I went by Libby for short."
Gia beamed, "Sure, Libby! Whatever you want!" The taxi pulled into a driveway, "This is your new house!" Gia gestured toward the huge white-brick mansion that was triple the size of their old apartment building.
Libby (Lexi) gaped, Rhonda (Kassie) looked aghast, and Bridget (Brooke) smiled.
"This is our's?" Kassie was astonished.
They got the luggage out of the trunk, and paid the taxi driver. Then, they walked through the front door, and saw a large foyer with a lady at a desk. They had their own secretary, awesome!
"Welcome, McAdams family!" The secretary greeted them, "I Lucille, your secretary. Some bellmen will arrive momentarily to assist you with your luggage. They will show you your bedrooms, via the Roomevator."
Brooke looked flustered, "What's a Roomevator?"
Lucille looked perky, "It is an elevator that can go all directions, to every room in the house!"
As cool as that sounded, Libby was down in the dumps. She really missed her friend in the U.S. The bellmen directed her to the Roomevator, and she stepped inside.
