It was 9th of February, 2013, he picked her from her academy at 9:00 pm, as per their daily schedule. Although his condition wasn’t well, but he didn’t let her reveal that. On reaching home, all of a sudden, he felt that throbbing pain in his lower limbs. This never happened before, tachycardia, maybe. He always tried to hide his all kind of problems from the family, just to keep them away from worries. But when the condition became unbearable for him, they forced him to get properly checked up by some good doctor. It was around 12:30 a.m when he was taken to the hospital. She was much worried when she came to know that he was admitted and referred to the other hospital because the blood pressure was critically high. After spending a night at hospital, next day he was discharged from a cardiology hospital. When he came home, his right leg wasn’t working. He couldn’t even walk on his own.
A man who was active enough to do each and every task steadily, was restricted to bed. She couldn’t get it what was going on. The reason was that he was the only man she trusted throughout her life, and that man was saying I’m alright, I’ll start walking soon… She believed him. He was the one who can never get bed ridden for a long time. But now the limitations, restrictions were annoying him. He used to try his best to take steps to walk. He wanted to walk. He wanted to do all his remaining tasks. He wanted to fulfill his responsibilities. He was the one who could never lose hope. He was the strongest man she ever knew.
One day she was in her room, and he came there on his own feet, by all his efforts. She was surprised and happy as well to see the progress. She asked him not to bear extra load, as it could be painful. Everyone over there admired his will power. With the passing day, he was improving his gait pattern progressively. Along with the self progression, his medical treatment was going on extraordinarily.
But this relief was for almost a week. Then there came a time when her strongest hero used to cry every day, every night. It was the most painful thing ever! Doctors diagnosed him with coronary artery obstruction. That was the reason he couldn’t even get up for washroom. Still he always told her that he’ll be perfect soon. She believed.
Once he called her and hugged her so hard and they both were crying like both didn’t want the other to cry, but both were unable to stop their tears. That was the hardest time. The growing blackish mark of gangrene on his big toe was scary for him. He thought that his foot will be amputated. He was afraid of losing his mobility. In fact, they faced the time when he couldn’t sleep for the whole night, crying and hitting his head with the wall, because the pain was so much intense. That was really incredible situation when all the pain killer injections or sedatives weren’t working on his pain. When they had to call doctors even at 4:00 am. Only desire was to minimize his pain, because seeing him in pain was unbearable for everyone over there. Those were the days when ambulances were often called to the house. On one of those nights, she was sitting with him. He was in extreme pain, when he addressed her and asked her to be strong enough to face the world. Because he knew that she couldn’t even cross the road by her own. So he was making her aware of the cruelty of the world. She didn’t get him and simply told him that she’s strongest because she had him. She didn’t understand why he’s telling him all this.
It was 22nd of march,2013, she was getting ready for college and saw him. He was sleeping but still he asked her that how was she going to college. She went to college for exams. The time she stayed at college was spent in crying. She just wanted to be with him, no matter what. On the other hand, at home, his condition got even more worse. He couldn’t even swallow the drops of water. He was taken to the hospital urgently. Doctors told to perform a surgery in which both of his legs will be amputated. As this was the only chance of his survival.
When she came back from the college, she came to know about the whole situation. She insisted to talk to him, because she wanted to listen those satisfactory words from him. After calling again and again, the man lying on a bed in ICU, having oxygen mask on his face and various machines around his body, he talked to her. Yes he did! All he said was “I can’t speak much but I’m fine, don’t you worry.” That’s all.
Next day on 23rd of March,2013, she insisted to go to hospital but she wasn’t allowed to go there. Because everyone over there said that he’ll get emotional by seeing her and it may raise his blood pressure, which could be hazardous for his health. So she compromised just for his health. At around 7:00 pm, warm winds started to blow speedily. A call from hospital to take them to the hospital as soon as possible because the doctors said he was left with a very little time to meet up with his closed ones. It seemed like she was totally numb. She knew it was impossible for him to leave her. On the way to hospital she wasn’t believing anyone over there. All she knew was his words that were echoing in her mind as, “I’m fine.” And she knew that he was never wrong. The heavy rainfall, thundering clouds and the sparks of lightening were making the night more scary. She didn’t know how they reached the hospital. On reaching hospital, they were told that he was in coma. He can’t talk to her. She insisted just to see him for a while but no one agreed. And she was sent back. On reaching home, a vacant room with a bed in the middle was there. She started fighting with everyone that “he’s alright, he told me that. He’s coming to home. How dare you to do this?” Everyone was consoling her. She left them and prayed to Allah for his longest life. After almost 15-20 minutes a stretcher was brought into the room with a body that was placed in center of the room. She saw that smiling face. Everyone was screaming and crying around him. She was staring at his face with blank eyes. Who knew that when she talked to him before going to college was her last conversation with him. Who knew that the phone call was the last time she was talking to him. She wasn’t in her state of mind. She sat down by his side and all she was saying was, “Listen to me! Talk to me! You can’t leave me like this! Papa! Papa!”
It was the first time she was calling him, and he wasn’t answering. She had no idea what was happened to her.
