Chapter X
Irena
I looked away from Cat. This was too embarrassing. I knew Marvin from the 5th grade. I never thought I would see him again, especially in a Roman camp for demi-gods. He was so quiet, yet I always noticed him out of a crowd. I couldn't face him. Not after what happened.
My attention turned back to the crowd. The Third, Second, and Fifth Cohorts congratulating and worshipping us. Reyna galloped on Skipio over to us.
"Seeing that there are two champions, we will need another Mural Crown. Octavian!"
This scrawny guy with short blonde hair and blue eyes came forth.
"Yes Reyna?" He said. He sounded like a snobbish kid. I wonder who he is related to.
"Oh, well first introduce yourself to the new arrivals, Catalina and Irena."
"Fine. I am the arguar of Camp Jupiter. Descendent of Apollo."
"Wait. So you're like not his kid?" Cat asked.
"No." He said, annoyed.
"Well, don't be rude, they did not know. Anyways, we need two Mural Crowns."
"Oh, alright." And he walked off. Reyna turned back to us.
"Don't mind him." And she trotted off. Once she was gone, Cohorts started cheering again. We had never been worshipped in this kind of way before. Maybe we had gotten the highest grade in class, or won an award or two, but people shouting your name and picking you up and things like that? Never crossed my mind.
We decided to go check on Raylan and Codey. Realizing that little kids were super curious shouldn't, but did, surprise when they weren't there. We began our search for the two and found them in the Field of Mars. Our legs ran us as fast as we could to them. Hardships for me, as I hobbled behind Cat. Once we got there, she began the interrogation.
"What in Juno's name are you doing here?" The boys looked up at us.
"The cabin was boring, so we came here to watch the battle." Said Codey.
"Yeah. Your quartet was smart. Bypassing the assulters with perries and huddled form was genius!" Exclaimed Ray. Well, he knows a thing or two about battles.
"Ok. Well, you could've left a note, you know."
"Wait, we did!" Raylan got up from his criss-crossed seating.
"You did?" I glanced at Cat. "Where?"
"In the bunk where you name was. Didn't you see it?" Suddenly, horns blared. It was the ceremony for the winning team.
"Come on. We'll worry about that later." And with that, the four of us ran to the hall and lined up with the Fifth Cohort. Just as Dakota said my name, we got in line.
"Present!" That was so close.
We filed into the room. Cat and I were asked to go stand by Reyna and Octavian. Once on stage, Reyna began a short speech.
"For new arrivals, these young ladies presented an outstanding performance. Judging by tonight's game, we are proud to present Catalina Pelate and Irena Armich with the Mural Crown in performance and courage." Applause rang out, as Reyna pinned the awards on our camp shirts.
"Well done." She said. Then, she turned back to the audience.
"Now, Octavian has news on more depressing matters." She sat down and motioned for us to do so as well.
"Now, Romans of choice. I have yet another prophecy." Shocked gasps replaced the applause. "Yes, I know. With this one and the Great Prophecy, things cannot much better. The exact one goes as follows." He then pulled out a dagger and a stuffed animal. Wierd right? Well, at least it wasn't a real animal. He sliced it down the belly and suddenly got a "eurika!" expression.
"Five of the new shall go to the skies. Assist the ones who fight Gaea's rise.
The dove, equine, and owls unite. As one they reach the ship by twilight.
The one with the riches risks it all. Takes one breath, and makes her fall.
Fatal choices last the impression. And make the God's vital confession."
Everyone mauled this over. From a group in the Second Cohort, a girl spoke up.
"Well, the ones to go are easy to find. Here at camp, we don't classify the Gods by their animals. We have to join forces again with the other camp."
Everyone began to groan and shout in disapproval. Reyna lifted her hand and they silenced immediately.
"Alright. So that only concludes limited answers. Only one God goes by her animal: Minerva."
Everyone glanced at Cat. Her cheeks went a bright cherry red.
"I know you just arrived here, but Catalina, you are obviously a part of this quest. Do you accept?"
Cat looked scared out of her mind. She then regained her composure, and nodded her head.
"Very well. Now, as for the one with the riches. Nico di Angelo and Hazel Levesques were the only known children of Pluto, and they both are on the quest." She looked at me. Her eyes were soft, yet her expression cold. I umderstood. I'm a part of this quest. I slowly nodded my head.
"I must contact the director at the Greek camp. Excuse me." She left the hall. Oh. My. Gods.
