"I don't understand why you don't just go for it." Anna said. She wiped around the edges of her lips to eliminate any smears from her lip gloss. Danika rolled her eyes.
"For one thing, he's never once looked at me, I'm on the bottom of the social foodchain, and how could he like someone like me?" Danika asked. She watched as Anna applied another layer of strawberry gloss and popped her lips, while admiring her reflection in the mirror on the door of her locker. How one person could be so conceited, she didn't know.
"'Someone like you'? Dani, you're probably the most beautiful girl I've ever met, and you're worried he won't like you?" Anna slammed her locker door shut. Whipping her light blonde hair over her shoulder she straightened her pale purple shirt and readjusted her layered black skirt. Anna was beautiful, with pale blue eyes and long wavy blonde hair, she was the image of popularity. Sometimes, Danika envied her.
"Stop it. You know what I mean." She crossed her arms and leaned against the red locker doors. Kicking at the tile, she shifted her bag on her shoulder. How could Ian Lane like her? He was the star linebacker for the school's football team and was majorly cute. Danika had a crush on him since the beginning of Freshman year when she ran into him in the halls. And now, she felt shaky just thinking about asking him to Prom. Whereas Anna is incredibly persistant..
"You mean, he'd be more interested in your sexy body, than your brains?" Anna asked. Danika shrugged and looked up at her.
Anna stepped in front of her and placed both hands on her shoulders. She forced Danika to look her in the eye before saying, "Danika Hayes, you are beautiful, smart, and fucking amazing. He would be a complete moron to not like you. If he didn't, I'd be seriously concerned about his sexuality." Danika cracked a smile and Anna smirked. "Besides, you have the most rockin' auburn hair and hazel eyes. And not to mention a hot hourglass figure. Girl, sometimes I envy you!" Anna cried, earning a few looks from passing students. Danika found it sem-ironic that she was envious of her looks. Because she knew that Anna adored her own as well.
"Okay, okay! Don't go all monologue on me." Danika laughed. Anna stepped back and smoothed her shirt.
"Just as long as my kick-ass pep talks are working." Anna announced. Danika nodded and grinned.
"Come on, we're going to be late to class." Danika wove her arm through Anna's and they walked off to World Studies.
Danika's head pounded, Cold War what? Who was Stalin again? She struggled to keep up with the conversation as her brains thumped against the inside of her skull.
When the bell finally rang, she shot out of her seat and darted towards the classroom door before Ms. Evans called her. "Not so fast, Ms. Hayes." Danika stopped with a sigh and hung her head, groaning while turning on her heels and walking back into the room of doom.
"Can I help you, Ms. Evans?" Danika asked with false enthusiasm and interest. She stood in front of her desk while looking down on her teacher, seated in a rolling chair. Ms. Evans was dark skinned with black hair and deep brown eyes that were set behind small glasses. She was thin, and well educated on how to bore an entire class to tears in minutes.
"You failed your last test." Ms. Evans also didn't beat around the bush.
Danika sighed and hung her head.
