Frantically looking behind me I turn the corner, checking to make sure I lost my stalkers. I slide down the wall, clutching my head between my knees, trying to keep my breathing low.
How did I get here?
Truth is, at the time I didn't know how I got here. But I know better now. My name is Hera, and I've come back to tell you about my story. To get the truth out. So that no one else is kept in the dark, when their life is on the line.
Hearing footsteps down the alleyway, I push myself behind a nearby dumpster.
Two men enter the alleyway searching for me.
"Where is she!"
"I don't know! Sebastian said he finally tracked her down to this very city. "
"Well it's obvious Sebastian is out of his mind! You know exactly what can happen if we don't find her. "
"I know.. "
"It's a matter of life and death-"
"I know! You think I have nothing to lose, if she finds out exactly what she can do! History will rewrite itself, empires will fall!"
I slow my breathing down.
Empires will fall?.... History will rewrite itself?...
"Do you hear something?"
My breath catches in my throat, a little to late. Turning around they both charge over to my hiding spot. The taller one yanking me up roughly by my arm.
"Aaagh!" I let out a startled scream, feeling my arm rench out of its socket.
"Oh don't yell now little flower, your time will come where the only thing you can do is scream."
Who are these men?
What have I done to them?
They look rough around the edges. Their hair is disheveled, they're covered in dirty black clothing and stubble lines both of their faces. The taller one of the two has a nasty scar leading from his eyebrow to his neck.
"Scar... " I accidentally whisper out loud.
That earns me a solid punch to the face. Blood begins gushing from the side if my nose.
"Jasper, we agreed no violence. Sebastian isn't going to be happy about this! "
"I don't care what he wants! This imbicile has no place in my heart for mercy." Jasper spat, throwing me against the wall.
My head snappsback, hitting the hard brick throws me into a dark abyss.
BANG!! BANG!! BANG!!
'Hera! If you don't get out of bed right now I'm coming in with a bucket of water!' I hear my mom yell from through the door.
"Another nightmare..." I whisper to no one in particular out loud.
I've been having nightmares for a while now. They feel so real. I'll always be in an unfamiliar place, always being hunted. Never knowing why.
Sliding out of bed, I slink towards my private bathroom, flipping the light switch on.
Unsurprisingly, I see a black ring around my swollen nose.
My nightmares are physically realistic for me. The doctors say that I'm selfharming myself in my sleep due to stress. I'm the only one who knows what's really happpeing.
I quickly put on foundation, and prepare my face for the day. Pulling my long black hair into a high pony tail, I turn back into my room heading towards my closet.
I slipp on an 'I donut care' hoodie with black leggings. Tying up my white converse, I grab my phone heading out of my room. Taking the stairs two by two, I skip past my mom, kissing her forehead while grabbing the keys off the table.
"Hera if you don't start-"
"Bye mom, love you!" I call, heading out the door during her protest.
I unlock my junk bucket of a car, easing into it, trying to not break it anymore. I head down the highway on my way to this awful place called school.
Making it just in time before the first bell rings, I try to rush and slam my door by accident. I hear my side mirror topple to the ground.
"Ugh!" I moan, grabbing my neck kicking the side of my pitiful vehicle.
Hearing a chuckle from across the parking lot, I whirl around. Spotting the offender I march right up to him.
He's standing there with his hands shoved into his acid wash jeans, trying to hold serious look on his face as if trying to avoid laughing again . His dark brown hair is slicked back and he's sporting a worn leather jacket.Oh he thinks this is funny? Ill show him funny.
"What's it to you biker boy!" I shout exasperately.
"Woah there doll face, calm down. I was just admiring your.... " He slows his words, eyeing my broken down car.
"Well save your comments, and concerns, I don't nor will I ever need them." I turn quickly before he can respond, running up the stairs to the school.
Yanking on the door, it doesn't budge.
"Great... Now I'm late" I sigh aloud.
What else can go wrong?
Hearing footsteps behind me, I already know who it is.
"So, are we going to chat now or are you just going to mouth off again?" Biker boy says.
"Talk about what?" I say reluctantly. Seeing no escape I turn around slowly playing with the ends of my hair.
"How you and I aren't getting into that building." He points behind him. "And it's obvious the school is locked... So therefore, join me I a day through the town." He says with a smile, revealing a dimple.
"Stranger danger much? I think I'll pass. " I try and push past him down the stairs but he grabs my arm.
Looking back to give him a few choice words we lock eyes.
Studying his face, I notice something strange.I swear I think I can see people walking in his eyes... Almost like a movie rolling through a projector.
I lean to get a closer look, not realizing him noticing my behavior.
He immediately pulls back, running his hands through his hair. This is weird...but I think those people I see look familiar to me.
"What was that-" not getting to finish my sentence, I'm plunged into a world of darkness.
