I spun round and saw five small men staring at me, all with different expressions on their faces.
"Um... hello," I waved awkwardly at them. They waved back and one walked over and kissed my hand.
"Pleased to meet you, Madam," he said.
I curtsied. "Pleased to meet you too."
"Do you think she's the Princess?" one of the men mumbled to the other. I answered their question for them.
"Yes, I am. Excuse me for invading your home, but I was told to come here by a m-" I was interrupted by a door opening, and in came the very person I was talking about. "Er- him."
"Nice to see you again, Princess" the man took off his mask, revealing a very handsome face. His long blond hair was tied back in a ponytail. He still had a stern look on his face, but his eyes were softer.
I nodded at him in greeting. Two of the dwarfs took my hand and led me to the larger bed.
"You should get some rest," one told me. "My name is Skamrak by the way." I wasn't quite comfortable with sleeping with five dwarfs and a man watching over me.
"Um... no thanks, but I am a little hungry!" I looked over at the man, who was sat at the table eating soup.
"Of course, Princess," Skhamrak said, and led me over to the table.
"Oh, but it seems we are one place short!" another dwarf exclaimed. At once, all of the dwarves offered up their seats for me. The man was too absorbed in eating his soup to notice us, a Dwarf poked him in the side.
"Offer your seat to the Princess," he murmured.
"You can call me Heather," I chipped in.
"A pretty name for a pretty girl. Now sit down and we'll get you some soup." The soup was the best thing I had ever tasted, much different from the regular buffet-layed table.
Over the table, the dwarfs told me their names. Of course, there was Skamrak, and there was also Hadak, Thrargeam, Gabuth and Toreghoth. They had all been from different clans, and had escaped together to avoid battle with the elves. They had made a house underground and lived there undiscovered until a mischievous boy named Reade had stumbled upon them whilst escaping from the palace guards. They agreed to look after him and he had grown up with them.
After that topic we moved on to why they had saved me. Everyone looked at Reade to speak. He nervously cleared his throat. "Er..." he began. "Well... there was talk about you in the markets being locked up and I wanted to save you because... my parents were locked up and executed and... I saw you in the market before and... I thought you look beautiful."
I blushed profusely and the Dwarfs made aw-ing noises. "I think our boy has a little crush on the lady," Skamrak whistled. Reade looked away.
"She certainly is beautiful," Hadak agreed.
"Stop it," Reade mumbled.
I smiled gently. "It's alright," I assured him. "Besides, you're not too bad looking yourself!"
At this, the dwarfs whooped and cheered. "Look at that! They're in love! They're in love!" The dwarfs chorused. Hadak scooted over to me and pulled me over to where Reade was sitting.
"Sit on his lap!" He screamed with joy. "Let him stroke your hair. Whisper sweet nothings into his ear. Kiss!"
The other dwarfs started chanting "KISS!" over and over, pushing me into Reade repeatedly. "ENOUGH!" he suddenly shouted at the top of his voice. With that he got up and stormed out of the front door.
