We would like to interrupt this current broadcast for breaking news. This afternoon at 4:37 pm local time, flight 283 originating from London's Heathro Airport with the destination of Laguardia Airport in New York was forced to make a water landing five miles off the coast. We have not yet been notified by the airline as to how many passengers have survived. However, we have been told that the forced water landing of flight 283 was due to a dual engine failure.

We are just getting word from our reporters that so far, there are at least forty-three survivors. The bodies of seven people have been found. Their names have not yet been released. We will be staying with you live for the next few hours to update you on the rescue mission of the passengers on flight 283.

It is now 6:05 pm, and a new boat filled with passengers has just arrived as you can see from our live video footage. Our reporters our currently finding out the new survivor count. We have word that all of the coast guard rescue boats have returned. The total count of survivors is eighty-seven, eleven of which are in critical condition. Out of respect for the families of those who have lost someone in this deadly airplane crash, we will not be releasing their names at this time. They will be notified individually by the airline. Thank you for staying with us tonight.

Alex's POV:

The whole cabin shook upon impact. My eyes were shut during our whole descent. I held tightly onto the hand of my twin brother Blake. The flight attendants yelled at us to grab our life vests and exit the plane immediately. I grabbed the life vest under Blake's seat because he was frozen in place and handed it to him, before putting on my own and stepping out into the aisle. The water was quickly rising, already surrounding our ankles. There were some bodies blocking the path to the exit however they were moved aside by people ahead of us. Eventually, all the others in front of us had left the plane, leaving us and only a couple other people still on the plane. I heard a scream from a couple rows away from the exit. I rushed over to her to see that one of the girl's legs was trapped under the seat in front. No one else seemed willing or able to help, so I lifted up the seat as high as possible and pushed her leg out from under it. I noticed she had a massive gash on her leg and was bleeding quickly so I used my shirt as a tourniquet to slow the bleeding. Luckily, there was an abandoned jacket on a seat nearby so I quickly put it on. I picked up the girl in my arms and yelled at Blake to slide down the escape slide. As I was making my way to the exit, I saw the slide separate. I heard Blake shouting to them that I was still on the plane but the pilot told them that he had checked and no one else was on the plane. That liar knew that there were still people on the plane because I saw him stare right at me. By now the water was at my hips so there was nothing else to do but jump into the water. She wasn't wearing a flotation device, so I held her up so that her head was above the water, and arduously swam towards the coast guard boat. However they didn't see me, and started to pull away. I let out a groan out frustration. I was getting tired from holding up the girl, and the water was freezing cold since it was late November. I started yelling at them to stop but they didn't hear me. I did the only thing I could think of, and swam to the abandoned slide as quickly as possible and lifted the girl onto it. I was nearing exhaustion, and I was drifting down in the water, but used the last of my energy to pull myself up and onto the slide. There was nothing else I could do, we were too far from shore. Everything turned black.

News Broadcast:

One of our helicopters has just spotted two more people on one of the slides. We are unsure yet as to whether or not they are alive.

Alex's POV:

I woke up to the sound of beeping. Everything hurt. The room I was in was dark, and no one was around. I started to sit up but was prevented by something, triggering an alarm. Several nurses rushed in and told me to lay back down.

"Why am I here?" I questioned one of the nurses.

The nurse closest to me responded, "Honey, you were on flight 283 which crash landed into the Atlantic. When you were found you were unconscious and you were suffering from severe hypothermia. You're lucky to be alive, your body temperature was extremely low. You were in a coma for three days."

That's when it all came back to me, the water landing, Blake, the girl, the pilot who left us, and crawling onto the slide. What happened to Blake!

"My brother, where is he! Blake Case. How is he? Please tell me he's fine!" I asked panicking.

"Don't worry Alexis, he only had a couple scratches. He's at a hotel with your parents. One of the nurses called them saying you woke up. They'll be here in thirty minutes."

"What happened to the little girl?" I ask the nurse.

"What girl? Oh, you mean Cassidy. She's still in critical condition. She lost a lot of blood but thanks to that tourniquet you made she was still alive when the coast guard found you two. She's recovering from her surgery right now."

I laid there for the next half hour staring at the ceiling, waiting for my parents to arrive. The first one I saw was Blake come into the room and he ran up to my hospital bed and hugged me.

Finally when I looked up I saw my parents. They were smiling and came up and hugged me as well. We were reunited finally.

My brother and I had gone to visit our Uncle and his wife in London during Thanksgiving break, so I hadn't seen my parents for a week, and when the plane started malfunctioning, I thought I would never see them again.

I stayed in the hospital for a little over a week to recover, and found out that Cassidy had survived and I actually got to see her. One time her father was there and thanked me profusely for getting her out of the plane.

I went back to school, and buried myself in homework and studying for the rest of the school year. My parents asked me several times to talk to a psychiatrist but I refused. Blake wasn't too affected which was good, but I don't think he saw the dead bodies in the plane and those floating in the ocean, which I'm glad because I have nightmares every night, even nine months after the crash.

Flight 283 had seventy-eight survivors and fifty-two dead.
