"Aidan I'm going to go get some matches, since the lighter won't work. Also I'm going to get some newspapers, and cardboard." my best friend, Sophie said sounding annoyed by the idea.

"Okay I'll just keep trying while you do that." I said to her.

We had decided to camp in her backyard. The tent is set up, now we just needed a fire in the fire pit.

I looked around outside to see if anyone else was there. Thankfully the wooden fence had separated Sophie's house from her neighbor's.

I closed my eyes and thought of fire, flames, heat, smoke, everything that has to do with a campfire.

When my eyes opened a medium sized fire is there.

It's more of a power, a gift, not a curse. I am the only one that knows about it. Not even my parents know! I wanted to keep it that way.

I know that I should stay away from fire when other people are around, because it reflects my emotions, but I love fire. I just want to stare at it all day, like some sexy male model's abs. I'm drawn to it, like a moth is drawn to light. It is a part of me.

"Hey you got it going!" Sophie exclaimed her arms where full of soda can, and fiber one bar boxes. Softie had a weird obsession with fiber one foods.

I snap out of the trance that had been holding me and turn to my friend. "Yeah the lighter work the third time I clicked it."

"Cool." she said.

"It is more like hot." I laughed at my own stupid joke.

She laughed with me as well. "I suppose so."

Sophie and I where making smores and just talking about the people who get on our nerves at school.

"Oh my gosh yes! She has to be the most annoying person on the planet!" I exclaimed.

"I would also have to agree." A new voice rang in my ears.

I whipped my head around trying to see who it is. That is when I see him. Clark. I don't really like him. Too annoying and jerkyish for my type, definitely.

"I thought I would drop by to see what the little juvenile delinquents are up too." he said as he jumped off the wooden fence. I'm surprised he didn't break it.

I rolled my eyes at his remark. I could tell Sophie was doing the same. I feel bad for Sophie who has to live right beside him. Poor thing.

"You can go back to your date now." I said venomously. "We can handle ourselves." I could feel the warmth on my back from the fire growing from my hatred towards him.

"Actually," Sophie spoke. "I invited him."

"WHAT!" I yell at her. The flames grew higher.

"You know that we have more fun with him." she said rushing her words. "Please calm down I meant to have a fun night with other people. It will be okay I promise. We will have fun."

"Fine." I mumbled. I was still mad. I really hate Clark and she had been inviting to do everything with us. I just want it to be girls nights again. The fire was low deep red and most likely scorching hot.

Clark whent and sat by Sophie. "Well," Sophie said. "I would like to make an announcement."

"About what?" I grumbled looking at the flames.

"Well Clark and I are kinda like a couple." She gave me a half smile.

The fire burst as I had abruptly stood up. "You are joking!" I yelled.

"No." She said quietly.

"Gosh Sophie are you trying to ruin our reputation?" I asked her. The flames grew bigger. I could see the fear in her eyes. "You hear how bad he is. How he cheats on girls- takes advantage of them. You honestly think that this is a good idea?! You where the one who said that he must be the worst living organism in the whole universe! You are dating him?! That is about as equal to as jumping in front of a train! My question is for you is why do you want to get hurt!?" The flames of the fire where 10 feet high.

"I-I was just-just needing a partner to dance with and then we ended up falling for each other." She said on the verge of tears. "I'm sorry. I should have asked for your opinion."

I just couldn't stay mad at her for very long, I never could. I take a deep breath and calm down for the sake of Sophie and almost burning her to a crisp. The flames sink lower to the fire pit until they reach the logs. "No, no it is your love life I'm sorry."

Clark had been quiet this entire time until now. "Your-your," he shuddered pointing a finger at me. "Your a mutant!" he finally gets out. "Did you see what happened to the fire that was not normal!" I see him pull out his phone dialing a number. My brain was processing things really slowly it was to late when I realized what was happening.

"She has powers! She needs to be stopped before anyone gets hurt!" Clark said.

Oh no.

This is when I jumped the fence and ran for it.
