CHAPTER 11

"I'm going to leave you at your mother's house," Courtney muttered.

"What? Why?" Taylor asked.

"Because you're kind of annoying me right now," she teased.

"No, really, why?"

"Because I need to see Blake," she whispered and started sprinting.

"Hey, wait up!" Taylor yelled.

"Nope!" Courtney was grinning.

Taylor made a sound that was halfway between a groan and a sigh. She picked up her pace and was soon on Courtney's tail. They were soon at Blake's house. Taylor was gasping for air and Courtney looked like she didn't even break a sweat, which I'm sure she didn't. Courtney laughed under her breath and opened the door.

"What did you do to her?" Blake laughed when he saw Taylor.

Courtney grinned as she went over to him, "We were just having a little race."

"Not-," Taylor gasped, "a-," gasp, "little-," gasp, "race," gasp. She took a deep breath. "We ran halfway across town."

"Go rest, Taylor," Blake said. Then to Courtney, "Take a walk with me?"

"Sure," Courtney said, taking his hand. "Where are we going?"

"Out to the cliffs."

"Oh. Okay." They started walking. Twenty minutes later they were at their destination.

Courtney sat down on a rock and looked out over the edge. There was a waterfall nearby and they could hear the roar of the water. They stayed silent for a few moments, taking in the beauty of the environment. Then Blake kneeled down and pulled out a white box. "Courtney," he began, "I know I kind of messed this up the first time."

"Kind of?" Courtney repeated.

"Just shut up and let me finish," he said lightly. She laughed.

"Go ahead. By all means."

"Just give me a second," he said, taking a deep breath. She smiled. "I love you, okay? You annoy me, you tease me, you yell at me, you hurt me, or at least you try to-."

"What kind of proposal is this?" she frowned.

"I'm getting to that. But, best of all, you love me. Courtney, we've been best friends forever, we've been through everything together, and I'm confident we can get through everything that's coming together. Will you marry me?"

"That's better," she said. He looked at her, waiting for her answer. "Yes," she said. He slipped the ring on her finger and he put a ring on his finger as well. His was a handmade ring made by Courtney in the fourth grade. He stood up. "Why do you still have that?" she laughed.

"Did you look at what your ring says?" he said in reply to her question.

"'I'll love you forever.-Blake,'" she read. "Aw!" He smiled at her. "I love you," she said.

"I know," he replied.

"Don't you dare go copying Hans Solo in The Empire Strikes Back!" she said.

Blake laughed, "You caught that, did you?"

"Of course I did! Who do you take me for?"

"I love you too," he said.

"Better," she answered. She walked over to the waterfall. Blake followed her. They were standing at the very top of it. The waterfall was about twelve feet. Water was raging down below. "Beautiful."

"Not as beautiful as you," he argued. She smiled. She looked back to the waterfall, hypnotized. She took a step forward and slipped on the water. She screamed as she tumbled down the waterfall. Blake threw his jacket off and jumped after her.
