The Shadowless Girl

Hi. They told me this should help me. But then again they told me many things that aren't true. I guess i should introduce myself. My name is Ace. Just Ace. No last name. I don't know why. All i know about my name is that it's Ace. I don't know much about myself either. They seem to know a lot about me though. They tell me things. Some i just know are lies. Why would they lie? Why don't i know myself? And more importantly why don't i have a shadow?

I don't know what to call the beginning. I guess I should start from when I met them. You must be thinking who is them? Them are the extraordinaire of scientist. If superhuman spies and the most brilliant scientists in the world got together and had a baby it would be them. They have no official name. It's just them. I don't know how I got here.  And all I remember is waking up saying "my name is Ace". There are other memories  but they are blullry and hurt to think about.  As a result I don't think about them often.

They know there are other memories because they ask me if I remember anything from the past four times a day, everyday. I've been here for eight months.

Here's how the usual routine goes: wake up at 8 a.m,do bathroom routine, get dressed, wait for the injections and inspections. They say they're injecting me with vitamins for my good, but I don't believe that. Once the whole circus act is over it's time for breakfast. Breakfast is at 9:30 a.m. Then two hours of free time. Afterwards it's lessons, lunch, then free time again by then it's 5:30 p.m.  Everyday at 5:31 p.m the lights flicker for 2 minutes. When I asked why they say it never happens. The day usually repeats itself ,food, free time, lessons. It's always the same.

Then one day it was not...

The morning went the same as usual. But as soon as 5:31 came around the lights didn't flicker. No instead they shone. They shone so bright that when i looked at them in wonder they caused me to go blind for a few minutes. It was in those few minutes of blindness that the world went into chaos. I heard what i assumed was an explosion. There was these eerie screams. Those haunting screams. I don't know who they belonged to. Even if it was a who. Suddenly i was being lifted. Whoever was carrying me didn't care to speak.  It was dark when i did regain my sight. But what a sight. It was beautiful. What i assumed was the sky had a soft black look to it, and had thousands of i later learned were stars. Those stars were so breath taking.

And now I'm here another nameless place. But I guess i can say I like it here. They are different. A better different.  I'm still a wonder to my self and to the world. But now I know for sure there's one out there.  And I know I'm still shapeless but now I can find out why. Maybe one day you will too.

The end....
