Geoff and Jace had calmed everyone down for the time being. They all had locked themselves inside of their room, the internet went out a few hours ago. The sun was rising in the east facing window, illuminating the barricade on the doors.

Jace had to be a leader now. He had to show these people that he was strong and that the creatures outside weren't a threat to them.

The phone lines still worked, thankfully. Parents called children and children called parents. Phone calls and scattered conversations left Jace to think of an escape plan. Geoff scooted his chair over to Jace's side, joining him at the break room table.

"Got anything yet?" he asked.

"None," Jace said solemnly, shaking his head.

"Too bad," Geoff said, leaning back in his seat. "I had an idea a few minutes ago."

Jace perked up and turned to face his companion, nodding his head to continue.

"So you know the fire escape outside the window for the room next door?" Geoff gestured towards the room next to them. Jace nodded again, prompting Geoff to go on.

"We know there are those monsters outside waiting for us, so we go up."  Jace was lost. Go up the steps? To the roof?

"Why would that be a good idea?" Jace asked incredulously.

"To flag down an emergency chopper!" Geoff said in a tone that meant to say duh, I thought it was obvious.
