It starts raining so we slog home. By the time we are half way there I cast a glance over to Macey. Her Light brown hair, now darker from being wet, sticks to her face. I stop walking and turn her towards me. I gently push some of her hair back and behind her ear. She looks up at me, her hazel eyes looking right at my brown eyes. I put my hands on her waist, lean down, and kiss her. Her lips soft under mine, she reaches up and puts her arms around my neck. I angle my head to kiss her better. I never wanted this moment to end. But I pull away from her and clear my throat. A sweet smile spread over her face. I reach down and hold her hand and we walk home like that. Happy and soaked by the rain. When we got to the house my mom was at work so I reached in my pocket to get my key. That's when I realized it's not there. Macey looks over to me. I smile at her, a confused look crosses over her face.
"Well I don't have the key," I explain. "But I have this tree fort that we could hang out in." I shrug. She smiles. I lead her to my back yard and go into the woods a little ways. I find the rope ladder that leads up. I go up first to make sure it's stable. When I get to the top I wave for her to come on up. She climbs up.
"Woah," She breaths. "This is amazing." She walks around and runs her fingers on the walls. I open a cabinet and pull out some blankets.
"It gets cold up here and we will be here for a while," I say and hand her a blanket. She takes it and sits down. "It might be lame but do you want to play some cards?" I ask.
"Of course!" She exclaims. I rummage in a drawer and find my card set. I sit down across from her and deal out seven cards to each of us. We play go fish for a little bit, but we eventually get bored.
I hear a car pulling up in the drive way.
"Kyle?" My mom calls out and she hurries to the door. "Macey?" We climb down and run to her.
"Hey mom." I say and Macey waves.
"Mr.Golf called," She says. "He said the vase broke and that you two ran from class," She says and opens the door. We all get inside. I don't dare to speak and neither does Macey. I don't blame her, but my mom doesn't seem mad... "Here," My mom hands us both a towel. "Now I have to get back to work but I need you two to stay here, you got it?" She looked us both in the eyes, and we nodded. "Ok good I will be home later." She says, walks out the door, and drives off.
"Wow... She wasn't even mad..." Macey says as we go into the living room to watch t.v. I sit down and she sits right next to me. I turn on the t.v.
"What do you want to watch?" I ask.
"Ohh! How about Cujo? I heard its a good movie." She smiles. I smile back and put it on Cujo. By the time the movie ends Macey is in tears.
"Shh shh it's ok he's still alive." I whisper.
"I know but why? He was such a good dog!" She buries her head in my chest and cries. I stroke her hair.
"But if he didn't he would suffer. When you have rabies you are scared of water. There for you can't drink. You become dehydrated and you suffer, he had to go in order to be happy. I'm sorry." I explain. She sniffles and sits up.
"I just love that dog." She laughs, I laugh with her. She lays her head on my shoulder and falls asleep, then I reach over, pull over a blanket, cover us both, and we fall asleep like that. Slowly drying off, a little sad, but totally happy.
Kyle?
Yeah Macey?
Can you wake up and come with me? I'm going to call them. My eyes snap open. Macey slowly sits up.
"You ready?" She asks standing up.
"Yeah. Ok what do we have to do?" I stand up, fold the blanket, and toss it on the other side of the couch.
"Just... Come with me." She reaches down and holds my hand. She grabs the key form the little desk by the door and puts it in my pocket. We go outside and lock the door behind us. We get in my black truck and we drive to a little trail.
"Where are we?" I ask. I have never seen this place before.
"Just follow me," She says and turns off the truck. We step out. As soon as both of my feet touch the ground, a huge gush of wind hits my face. Macey throws her hand up and swings it to the left. The wind is gone. "Sorry she thought you were an intruder." She says, walks over and holds my hand.
"Who did?" I ask as I follow her.
"Maylay." She says.
"Who's that?" I ask and I stumble over a root.
"The goddess of the Blanks world," She explains. "If a mortal, such as your self, comes onto Blank land, she tries to ward them off by blowing strong winds onto them. If it gets strong enough it will throw you about thirty to fifty feet back. But I told her you are with me. She will be talking to me later." She finishes as we approach a rock, maybe three feet tall with a flat surface. There are these symbols on it. Macey drops my hand and walks over. I try to follow her but I walk into something.
"Why can't I come through?" I ask as I reach up and touch the force like thingy.
"Maylay keeps all mortals away from the Captury." Macey says as she put her hands on it. She closes her eyes and begins to hum. "The light lives with in me, I have run into troubles, let my speak to them, let them come to me." She puts her head down. People appear inside with her.
"Macey!" A little girl yells and runs over and hugs Macey.
"Hi Julia," Macey hugs her back. "Aunt Carlie!" Macey hugs a woman who looks about twenty-nine. "Uncle Mason!" She hugs a man who looks of the same age as the woman. "And Ben." Macey just smiles.
"Hi Macey." The guy who I suppose is Ben, smiles and waves.
"Macey dear, who is that?" Carlie asks in a gentle tone.
"That is Kyle, come on I want you guys to meet him." Macey leads them all out.
"Hi I'm Julia." The little girl with light brown hair waves. She looks like a younger version of Macey. But Julia has blue eyes.
"Hi I'm Kyle." I say. She hugs me.
"Sorry Kyle, she likes hugs." Macey says and Julia lets go of me.
"I'm Carlie, this is Mason and Ben." The woman gestures to each one as she names them off.
"Do you know?" Ben asks. I cast a glance over to Macey. She nods slightly.
"Yeah." I say.
"Cool." Ben says. He looks about my age. He has blonde hair and green eyes. Mason sticks out his hand for me to shake it. I shake his hand.
"Macey dear, where is June?" Carlie asks.
"She's at school," Macey replies. "Um Kyle do you think we could go to your house real quick so I can get their stuff?" Macey asks me.
"Yeah, sure." We walk out to the truck. They sit in the back of the tuck and I drive. Once we get to the house I see that my mom is still gone so that's good. We all go inside and Macey runs up to her room. Trigger runs out to greet us. He jumps up and puts his paws on my legs. I smile and pet his head. I look back and they all look kind of scared.
"He doesn't bite." I say. Julia looks up to Carlie. She nods slightly.
"Can I pet him?" Julia asks.
"Yeah sure. Sit Trigger." Trigger sits and wags his tail. Julia slowly puts out her hand and pets his head. He licks her hand and she giggles. They all come over and pet him.
Hey Kyle, can you come help me?
"I will be back in a minute." I run upstairs, I go to Macey's room.
