Him

I hear the sound of thunderous footsteps chasing after me and the sound of a voice calling out.
I don't look back, I can't.
If I do I'll become paralyzed and caught up in the haunting memories.
As I run on and on I grow tired, tired of the blurry scenery and the burning in my legs and lungs.
I slow my pace and look around, worried that he has caught up.
He is nowhere to be found so I rest on a nearby bench.
Little did I know that he was hiding and as he jumps out from behind a bush I become stuck.
Sucked into the trap called his fiery eyes.
As he stares intently at me I feel my walls and insides crumble.
I feel all of my convictions and decisions disappear until it's just me and him.
The one thing I had never wanted to happen has finally occurred.
This was not supposed to be a possibility but now it's done.
I'm stuck forever or so it seems.
As he stares on at me I collapse to the ground and hang my head in defeat.
He has won.
I will be here for as long as he desires.
If only someone could save me from this prison, this cage.
If only someone would hear my silent pleas.
If only I had not stopped running and fighting.
If only I had listened to the words of my Father as he let me go.
If only.
Why did I not take heed?
Why did I not listen to his warning?
Now I have lost the fight and I'm lost in a sea of defeat and regrets.
Will I ever be free?
