from the perspective of Andrew James Wallace
"Indy! Indy, honey, time to go to school!" I called. Indigo was waiting by the stairs, as always. She looked sideways into thin air, murmuring to herself unintelligibly. I wasn't surprised or worried to see her behaving like this. She always did.
Silently, we clambered into the car. She sat in the back, and talked to what I assumed were imaginary friends. She started giggling when we were about halfway there. It wasn't the type of giggle most parents would be used to, more like a a mix of a giggle and a cackle. I smiled. It was strange, but I loved it.
I got some weird looks when I dropped her off. Although Indy didn't notice, I sure did. They all stared at me, as if I was supposed to stop her from laughing. As if they thought I was a bad parent for not letting her laugh. In my mind, that spoke volumes about them.
Indy's aid, Ms. Gallagher, showed up t walk her to class. I thanked Ms. Gallagher, helped Indy out of the car, and gave her a kiss goodbye. I smiled, somewhat longingly, as I watched her walk into the building, murmuring to her imaginary friends again. She reminded me so much of her mother.
