"Wait. How did you two get away?"I asked. "The air vents. I snuck a phone off one of the men watching us and it had a map on it,"Maria grinned.

Haze pulled the phone out his pocket and handed it to me. "I think Carter might have it on his too,"he said, pointing. I turned to him.

He was still riving in pain. He laid on his back, his knee brought up to his chest.

Without wasting time, I looked around the room and found the phone not far from us. Maria noticed as well and ran over to get it. I gave Haze the other phone back and took the other from Maria.

I turned on the screen only to find a password. I turned to Carter.

"Give me the password to the phone,"I demanded. "Go to hell,"he growled.

Haze walked over to him, kicking his gun shot wound. Carter let out a pain filled roar then glared up at Haze.

"Fuck off, kid, before I strangle you just like I did your mommy,"he said. Haze kicked him again, but this time harder.

"FUCK!"Carter bellowed. "Tell us the password or I'll empty the whole clip into your other leg,"Haze glared.

I was taken back. Never had I heard neither of my kids say something so violent. But at the same time...I was kinda proud.

"Bite me,"Carter teased.

Haze, having had enough of his foolishness, took the gun from Maria. Instead of putting the gun up to his other leg, like he had said, Haze pressed the barrel of the gun against Carter's wound. He looked him straight in his eyes.

"I'll do it. I may be five, but I'm not afraid to do what I have to."

Fear flickered in Carter's eyes. He hesitated before clicking his tongue.

"One seven three five."

I typed the numbers into the phone, unlocking it. Haze smiled brightly before walking over to me.

"Thank you, sweetheart,"I smiled, giving him a kiss on the cheek.

"You're welcome, mommy!"

I scrolled through the phone until I found a mapping app. Maria was right. I was picking up the signal that Maria's phone was giving off and others that were scattered throughout the building. All marked by names and faces.

"We need to find Daddy,"Maria said. "We do, but it's still too dangerous for you two. I'll do it,"I said, putting the phone in my pocket.

"But..."

"It's okay. I promise nothing bad will happen. I'll find daddy then we'll get out of here somehow. I'll be quick,"I smiled.

"Like hell you will,"Carter said from behind me. Ignoring him, I pulled them into a hug.

"Find somewhere safe to hide. Text me and keep the phone on silent. Check it every couple of minutes,"I said.

The twins looked at me with begging eyes as I let them go. "Let us come with. Please,"Haze said softly.

I could feel a lump forming in my throat. "If you don't hear anything from me at all, call this number. It's GUN. They'll come and help you two. I'm putting in our location too,"I said, taking their phone.

I punched in numbers into the phone and saved it. Handing it back, I got up on my feet.

I took a deep breath before looking down at my sweet angels. They looked up at me with their big, innocent eyes. I smiled softly.

I got down on one knee to give them one more hug. After kissing their forheads, I pushed them toward the air vent they entered through.

"I love you two, soooooo much. Stay safe..."

Haze turned and shoved the gun into my hands. "No, baby boy. You keep it. Use it if you have to,"I said, giving it back.

"What about you?"they asked at the same time. I playfully winked at them. "I'll be fine. I got this,"I said. They smiled.

"Okay...good luck, mommy,"Maria said. "Good luck,"I smiled.

They climbed into the vent, looking back before continuing to crawl away.

I sighed. Turning around, I walked towards Carter. He wouldn't look up at me. His emerald eyes were glued to the floor. In them held different emotions flying in and out of his mind.

"Carter."

"..."

"Can we make this easy? Get in the chair?"

Ignoring my question, he replied softly, "He's going to kill me. He told me not to fuck up."

"You'll be fine."

"You know he will! He doesn't give a fuck about anyone but himself! You try working for him and watching him shoot and kill your friends when they mess up!"he yelled.

"SHUT UP! JUST SHUT UP!"I screeched. I felt like my blood was blasting through my veins. Growing hotter and hotter with the anger building in my chest.

Carter looked up at me, his eyes wild and his chest heaving up and down.

"You...You talk about selfishness, yet you were willing to give me and my family away to this fucking psychopath for MONEY!"

He opened his mouth to retort but he closed it again, clicking his tongue.

"You aren't the only one Sonic might kill, so save your bitching. You got yourself into it,"I muttered loud enough to hear.

We sat in silence, staring at each other. "Please, (Y/n)...help me get out of here,"he whispered.

After a moment of hesitation, I helped Carter to his feet. "Thank you...thank you so much,"He sobbed.

I sat him on the chair I once was captive to. I ripped the bottom of my shirt and tied it around his wound.

"That should help with the bleeding...I wish you luck."

He wiped away his tears. "W-What?"

"This is all I can do. I have to find my family. I can't lug you around. I'll be at a disadvantage and killed in an instant,"I explained calmly.

"What?! Help me, dammit! If you don't, I'll scream! I'll yell for back up!"

"Then what, Carter?! You and I will both be found and you know what's gonna happen then? Sonic's gonna find you with a bullet in your leg."

He paused, his eyes widening a bit. Realization plastered all over his face.

"Yeah, now you're thinking! He'll have no use for you then. You couldn't even do your job and keep me contained! He'll kill you on the spot. Hell, he probably won't even make it quick,"I continued.

His bottom lip quivered as his terrified gaze dropped to the floor.

"No matter what you do, you're gonna get yourself in deep shit,"I finished.

I started pulling out the pieces to the disassembled gun out of my clothes. I put it together piece by piece before stuff it into my back pocket.

I looked at Carter's pitiful state before turning on my heel, taking out the phone, and strutting to the door.

I paused when I came face to face with the only thing keeping me from either being killed or escaping. I unlocked the phone and went to the map. As far as I could tell, no one was in the hallway.

I gently opened the door before looking back at Carter once more. He stared at me with pleading eyes. 'Don't go' they said. 'Don't leave me here to die.'

Yeah well...karma's a bitch.
